Deep breath, deep breath...

Good game against a very good opponent. Habs didn't play their best yet were very competitive and could have won the game.

  • Fourth line was terrible in the first but played better and better as the game progressed
  • PP was, as usual, pretty terrible
  • Among others, Armia, Mete, Weber, Kulak, KK, Tatar played well.

I don’t know about you guys but i got all excited about this years Habs and let my expectations get the best of me. I have now realized that i must come back to where i was at the beginning of the year. Zero expectations and let the kids get better and the prospects in the minors prepare for the future. Ever since the Toronto game i have taken a step back. The Habs are young and very energetic. A blast to watch comepared to last year. If they make the playoffs great thats a huge bonus. If not next year they will be that much closer. Just sit back and imagine how long the smug Trawnta fans waited to be this arrogant!! We will be back at the top soon. Just maybe not as soon as i had thought.

- Fringe wild card team. No more, no less.
- We will struggle to get out of the 1st round if we make it.
- If we are lucky, we get the Islanders as a 1st round match up.

We are a top 10-15 range team ish. That has not changed with me. The issue is we are missing to big pieces. 1) Power forward who is a scoring threat. 2) A top 4LD who is better than Reilly offensively and provides shut down D in our own end.

We will struggle to win against top 10 contenders. We will win some games (like the Jets) but we will lose other games (Leafs and Preds). Next stop... Tampa

Thats more a tuned to the lowered bar in Montreal.

You have to look at them like a brand new expansion team. MB and Molson are very comfortable with that.

Keep it up every year. MB could stay employed for decades that way.

Yeah! Completely outclassed by those Preds! It's not like the game ended 35 to 38 in term of shots and was a tie game with 12 minutes left in the game.

We got destroyed!

I hope one day we can have a chance beating teams like the Preds.

Who cares about the shots if we're not capitalizing. We could shoot a hundred times and I'd still go for the predators 35 shots if it means they scored more goals.

And I hope so too. 12 straight starts for Rinne where he allowed 2 or fewer against us. They have our number.

Pk is obviously injured.

Back/neck problems for sure.

Besides this year PK has been a much better all around D than Weba. I don't think we need to discuss this any further.

Oh so PK must be injured if Shea is statistically having a better year? Huh? And how can you say PK has been better than Shea, without an 'LOL' after?

Did you know there can be more than one contender?
You can name as many as you like Winnipeg and San Jose are the teams to beat and the teams most feared in the west . Then It's Nashville , Calgary , Vegas . What does it matter to real fans of the Montreal Canadiens what Nashville does in the playoffs .

As Tsn noted , Weber has 1 less goal than Subban , since the trade...
and Weber has played 68 games less...

Because scoring goals is ultimately the yardstick for dmen?

As noted by AWAATG (anyone without an axe to grind), is that Subban clearly outscored Weber in both PPG and APG and primary points per game since the trade.

Yet it's crazy just how many times the goal argument has been brought forth compared to those stats.

As if playmaking and transition play were worthless...

The Preds are scoring 3.07 goals per game this year and we're scoring 3.00 goals per game!

What a f***ing powerhouse those Preds are!

It was a pretty damn even game that could've easily go one way or the other, we even managed to generate more scoring chances and more high danger scoring chances than them.

The difference was in the net. Rinne outplayed Price.

The preds took away the middle of the ice and that’s the blueprint for how to handle a small speedy forward group. We did not get much time with the puck on our sticks, everything was rushed. The Predators are a strong defensive team built for playoff hockey. We need some size up front but not just big and slow, size with speed and skill. There is plenty of work left to be done.

I know it's not Julien's type of game, but we need better puck movers to support our center line. I do agree about the lack of size upfront, but our center line aint Crosby-Malkin either.

Habs really dominated the Preds during some parts of this game. Rinne played incredible or is it that Lekhonen, Mete just can't score on empty nets?? My god we had so many chances to score. I really like the way we look when playing against these supposed contenders.

Drouin isn't the game breaker he was hyped to be. There's honestly not that much of a difference between Tatar and he. He's certainly not better than(or even close to) Patches circa 2011.

We need to get better up front if we want to be contenders. Domi and Drouin are not going to repeat these career years. We really need someone elite with Habs pajamas to come here. Panarin or Stone please. We have nothing "elite" in our forward prospect pool(or roster) except Kotkaniemi.

We'd be better off waiting for Romanov and Brook rather than overpaying a guy like Gardiner. Our forward group on the other hand simply isn't good enough for the playoffs and there's two legitimately elite players available. The only reason we should splash on D is if Karlsson entertains the thought of coming here.

First line did sweet FA. Domi looked uninterested, not a good omen for Saturday. Oh well, let's move on, can't give up now. Beat the Bolts and all is forgiven, get swept in Florida and kiss the PO goodbye.

I really loved Josi last night, so mobile and efficient the way he skates. Sometimes he reminds me a little of Niedermayer the way he plays. He's head and shoulders Nashville's best player.

We need help in many places especially on D but like you said, there aren't many stretch passes going on under Julien. I just feel like our lack of size hurts us against a western style of game and it has been this way for 15 years, hopefully Kotkaniemi can be a number one center in a few years, hard to say if he will be.

You are blaming goaltending as the reason we lost but I can counter that argument and say that it could have been 3-0 for Nashville at the end of the first period if not for Price and his excellent work in net. We also need to convert on some of our chances more often because we get plenty of them and you could say that it's because we always face vezina style goaltending but in reality that's not the case either.
