So many bad calls in this game. For both sides. The two that stand out to me are the dumb 5-minute major given to Richards on a shot follow-through and the non-call on Kane's high-stick to Doughty's face.

Glad LA won so those became an afterthought.

I think the Richards' penalty was a double minor, but regardless it should not have been called in the first place. Can you imagine if they scored one or two off of those powerplays? Also, Kane got away with two blatant high sticks on Doughty and was it Brown earlier in the game? These are game changing mistakes being called/missed. I imagine 9 times out of 10 we win by a larger margin with 4 more minutes 5 on 5 and two extra powerplays.

While I agree with what you are saying, the refs also didn't call a tripping penalty on Voynov on Stoll's shorty, which would have not only taken that goal away but would have given chicago a 2 man advantage. That's bigger than the high sticking gafs, imo.

That's some great revisionist history there.

The game was tied for 28 minutes. The Blackhawks led for 23 minutes. How exactly is that 80% of the game. The Kings far outchanced and outshot the Blackhawks. In no way, shape, or form does that constitute a terrible game.

They limited a team that averages 31 shots a game to 25. They racked up 36 shots against a team that averages 27 against. I would bet lots of money they controlled the scoring chances, too. I will post them as soon as Robert from Jewels from the Crown posts his report.

Right, so we weren't leading the game for 51 minutes...if I'm playing a team like Chicago, who I believe we are better than, now and in the playoff format, I consider a 2-0 or 3-1 result in our favor as full control. Regular season wins mean 2 points no matter who we beat. We got lucky and scored 5 today. But we let Frolik, a guy who has only scored one goal all year, score two. Our GAA against Chicago this year is a "healthy" four goals a game. I don't want to see that anywhere near the playoffs because there's a good chance we may face them in the first or second round (although I would bet against Chicago making it to the second round if they play a Nashville/St. Louis/Phoenix). I believe the Kings are better than Chicago. We shouldn't be "not winning" that long. And we should have the highest priority on not letting them score so many.

I feel sorry for you. That was one of the most exciting, fun to watch games of the year.

You ALWAYS have to make it personal, don't you? Every time you come on this board, you have to beat up some Kings fans here. Guess what, you're opinions that I've read have been sophomoric at best and you're always the first one to attack someone else for not agreeing with you. It's rather difficult since I usually like to spend more than 5 minutes thinking about any topic regarding the Kings so I blow past whatever knee jerk idea you may have rather quickly. So we'll never agree. Yet you've never seen me disagree by attacking you personally. All I can say is what you bring here is really, really unnecessary. And I'm not the only one that feels this way.

That was one of the best games of the season and we have fans like this who just can't enjoy it for what it is. :shakehead

Regular season wins don't mean jack. Just ask the Canucks.

I think of the Kings in only one way...repeat champs. Regular season wins, like Sutter just said a few days ago, really don't mean much. Development in our systems and players so that they're ready to play Kings' hockey come playoff time. Wins will come...don't let random losses wreck any commitment to the Kings' system. Right now, in 3 games, Chicago has dropped 12 goals on us. We haven't exactly scored 12 of them. We shouldn't be happy that ANY team scores 12 on us in three games, especially any team we may play in the playoffs, let alone four in one game. I can't see us winning any seven game series allowing four goals a game. Maybe Pittsburgh can but that's not Kings hockey.

The Ducks fans were ecstatic to beat Chicago because they think Chicago is the best team in the NHL and they're the second...so beating them the best they can hope for...regular season accomplishments. I don't feel that way at all about the Kings. The Kings are #1. We SHOULD beat the Ducks (and we did) and we SHOULD beat Chicago. We just got off to a bad start due to so many injuries and top players being hurt so our regular season record doesn't reflect how good this team is.

The only interest I have in any regular season game is to just get enough points to make the playoffs and have every player on board and on his game. Right now we have a major problem on goaltending and defense...signature Kings strengths. I really don't care about regular season moral victories...that's for the Kings fans of 5 to 15 years ago, the Clippers of hockey. Right now we're the Lakers. We should expect to win with this roster, this talent, this system, this coaching, this leadership and this Cup, and we should expect to control the play against lesser teams...not let one goal scorers score two on us. The Kane goal...well, that's a world-class goal. The other ones, deflections and what not, stuff last year we would have stopped. Every other time they just took momentum.

This is a situation where some fans want to celebrate the glass half full and you guys think I'm saying it's half empty. Guess what, as the defending champs and this great team, we should have a FULL glass.

We got lucky to win this game. Brown got a lucky opportunity to get the puck from Kopi's skates. We didn't win because we controlled the play.

What? So you are upset a guy that doesn't score much played great today but since the Kings are defending champs only high scoring players should score on us?
LOL.

So brown creates his own luck by taking the puck where he should and It's cause to say the Kings were lucky to win? Come on. Bounces are a part of hockey and good teams take advantage of them.

Excellent game. Our puck posession and PK are things of beauty. Even with Carter, Richards and Quick not playing well the team pulled it off and I'm sure they'll rebound soon enough. Great job!

You'll never have a perfect game against the Hawks, since they're too good of a team for that. But 3 of the 4 goals were off clean offensive zone faceoff wins, and the other came as a result of a bad defensive read by Muzzin that just can't happen. Those things can be fixed.

The 1st period was shaky, but it felt like a playoff game.

Hossa and Sharp were out, but so were Mitchell and Greene.

The lines worked much better after switching them back to something normal. As good as Toffoli's goal was, if he continues to back check, that's what will keep him in the NHL. Carter had an important back check at one point as well.

Richards on the PP, and Richards at ES, can be almost two different players. On the PP, he looks like he had a purpose. Passing was crisper, he actually takes a shot with something on it. At ES, he flails and bobbles a lot, and can't seem to get the puck under control. As long as we get playoff Richards though, all is good.

Good start to the road trip. 4 more tough games to go.

If you really want to get into luck, Chicago's had several goals go in off lucky bounces and deflections against us this season. IMO, there's no need to panic.

The Kings did control the play against another strong puck possession team, and that is a very good thing. Really, the only difference between Chicago and LA right now is what they're getting from their starting goalies. Crawford and Quick have switched lives (temporarily).

The Kings are still a force to be reckoned with even so. Let Chicago be afraid of us.

Disagree, the fact that we controlled the play for two out of three periods gave these guys the will to win. I thought Quick was weak, should have stopped two of those goals....disappointing. Besides that, thought this team was REALLY impressive the way they took it to Chicago....looked a lot like that team from about 9 months ago.

Considering Chicago has played 31 games and lost 3 games in regulation all season prior to this one, a 5-4 win was probably one of the only ways to win vs. them and it was a pretty incredible feat - in their barn no less.

I'm not going to get on any of the D after a game like this where winning was extremely difficult. At some point you have to credit Chicago. They are a fabulous team that rarely gets beat. Good on the Kings for taking it to them.

Wow what a bunch of solid posts about the game in this thread. Several excellent takes that were informational as well as fun to read. Lots of solid takes all around.

As for TT he is what a few of us have been saying about him forever, he has a rare ability to be where he needs to be in order to score and the hands/instincts to capitalize on his chances when he gets the puck.

The great thing about TT is that he has and will always work harder than most O talents to try and elevate his overall game to be the best it can possibly be. What gets overlooked about TT is that the same instincts that make him a very good O player are there in the rest of his game, it just takes him time to adjust to every level he has played in and then it comes out.

Dealing TT for an addition to our top 6 would be very short sighted when he is going to be a very good one in his own right for a very long time and at a cheapish cap hit too. Kid is going to score.

Jake made a couple of mistakes last night and that is going to happen. It will happen less and less as it already has started doing since he came up but that is the life of an NHL rookie Dman. Where he is slowly turning things around and struggled a bit last night was another common ailment in young D and that is indecision.

I go, no you go, no I got it.........crap!

He had a couple of those moments during the game but they were early and seemed to get better as the game went on. These are mistakes that go away with time if a kid has game and Muzzin has game.

MR's injury is making it hard to watch him play. Warrior efforts with wimpy results. You have to let him play if he wants to play because his will to win is so great that it lifts everyone around him up but his own personal game is struggling.

I am still not sold on our need to add anyone to our D that doesn't come from our own team. If we go into the playoffs as things are we still have a great group of D and two goalies who can be lights out to go with our talented scoring group. Not as good as it can be but good enough to where I wouldn't make any massive changes. Minor upgrades sure but then DL has his hand at the wheel and I believe he will make the right calls.

Good game against a good team. If we had WM and MG we would be unstoppable but even without them we are very good and slowly getting better and better.

Oh well, two more points and one game closer to the playoffs. On to the next game.

Yeah you them Tony! That was a terrific effort vs a very good team playing at Home on national TV. Guys we need wins 2-1 or 5-4 does not matter.

Remember the saying in the 90's "you can't teach size" I believe you can't teach pure goal scoring.
TT has the touch

Reading thru the Hawks comments on their GDT , they are more than a little concerned about having to meet LA in the playyoffs. Worried on size, forecheck, hitting and constant pressure. And they had major complaints on the PP (Kompton rules!)

I stayed away on purpose because I figured there would be a lot of negativity and over-reaction.
It was horrible. :o I understand we all want to win but that was madness. Every ****ing mistake was mentioned and when the Kings scored, everyone was great again. At least show some consistancy.

I think this game is evidence that the Kings' forwards are tailor made for the playoffs.

They wore the Hawks down last night with the intense forecheck.
