Well, let's just see. Since 2010 at the World Junior Championship the U.> has won 6 gold; 1 silver and 4 bronze medals for a total of 11 medals. Canada has won 5 gold; 4 silver and 1 bronze medals for a total of 10 medals. At the U18 championships the U.S. has won 7 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals for a total of 13 medals. Canada has won 3 gold, 0 silver and 4 bronze for a total of 7 medals.

The growing success of U.S. hockey at the younger ages is starting to show at the NHL level as many of the teams' most skillful players are American. Look at the Canadiens. Caufield and Lane are among our best current young players. Fowler is probably our third best prospect. The Americans have caught us and but for the magical 3 M's and expectational goaltending last night, Trump and his followers would be gloating.

The demographics make U.S. dominance in hockey inevitable. All you have to know is that there are more high school hockey teams in Texas than Ontario.
I don’t take the junior championship seriously, as the playing field is uneven. As an example: add Bedard and Celebrini (junior aged) to this last Canadian squad and the US gets mauled. Not even close.

Level the playing field by having the best junior aged players at the tourney and then we will talk.

The last time this happened was during the lock out year. And let’s see how it ended…Mmmmmm…

The only real measuring stick is the pro level. And at that level, aside from that awesome 1996 squad, it’s no contest. However way you want to look at it.

And in the coming years, the quality of Canadian players coming in the pros is obscene. Totally obscene. McKenna (a McJesus level of player), DuPont, et all. Franchise caliber players. To quote our buddy @Skip Bayless : GENERATIONAL.

Owners need to recognize that expanding hockey’s reach to new fans outweighs their focus on the season and playoff push. Attracting more people to the game translates to more revenue for them as well.
People loves to pay to see bottom liners and d-men…..

And if this series was so full of passion, it is first and foremost because of the political climate. You cannot take that out of the equation.

And anyone who grew up in the 70’s or 80’s, would definitely understand that politics gets intertwined with international sports. Like it or not. Especially when one country disrespects another.

Damn straight. The Soviet teams were a product of the Soviet political system. So was Canada's team. You had great players but the play was all about the system. Canada played a much more individual game. Politics laid heavy on the games.

And what do we have here ? The Americans are all offended because fans are booing because their El Presidente Dumpster wants to take over Canada. So they decide to start a bunch of fights, bullies like El Presidente Dumpster. They win. American social media / media delights and mocks us. We beat them and rejoice in beating the bully.

The win was a soothing balm further to the onslaught of unprovoked attacks and relentless condescension Canadians at large have seen pouring down on them like never before. Some social media platforms have become an even deeper cesspool of hatred.

The Summit Series was not specifically targeted at Canada but there was a sense that the West’s system of govt was being challenged.

The circumstances that surrounded this game was uncharted territory — it felt personal. I would have hated to see the fallout had the team lost. Thankfully, it turned out well but in true Canadian fashion — it had to be a win in extremis.

The NHL will never be able to go back to an All-Star format after this.
Of course it was personal, we've had the orange idiot spewing his bullshit and trying to make us his slave. The fallout I don't think would've been as bad as some think, given the Olympics are less than a year away, but it's always great to be the one on top. I'm happy our players aren't running their mouth like the Tkachuk bros....no need for that crap, which is why we're held in much higher regard than they are. Always have, always will be.

I guess U18 has a similar issue with the best players going to the U20 team.

Let's hope so. When he was drafted that's what I felt his path was. A defensive defenseman who can skate & transition the puck. He's missed a lot of development time, though.
Slavin has such great hockey IQ. Reads the play quicker than everyone else. Those types of dmen are so hard to play against when they can also skate well and are tall.

Don’t forget internal politics too. The ‘72 Summit Series could have been quite one-sided if they allowed WHA players to play. Bobby Hull was still one of the best players in the world and couldn’t go.

That’s without mentioning the fact Bobby Orr was hurt and couldn’t play. Imagine if everyone was healthy and allowed to go, we would have throttled the USSR.

Fox with the initial mistake on the McDavid goal

That's a good example of the bad habits of modern day systems esp. man-to-man. You are supposed to follow your guy and when you lose him, you lose your awareness of what to do. Whereas in the past it was more of a simple positioning where you stay in your lane in your position and you don't run like headless chickens. It''s pretty authistic that one guy would just be all alone where nobody is covering him. It is so comical. Because it's basic hockey, basic logic. Players in the current systems sometime are like the scene in the Asterix cartoon in the tower of Babel where people go there and when they leave the place their have lost their minds.

What could possibly compare to this?

Win one for the Gipper? Babe Ruth’s called shot? Mark Messier guaranteeing a Game 6 win in the 1994 SC playoffs?

This Cooper quote will have a special place all its own although I’m not too sure @Apoplectic Habs Fan will ever forgive him for his nepo roster selections. :sarcasm:

Nope i will not

It would have been easier win without Bagel and Shiterelli lol

Now lets do the adults in the big games...not taking credit for this list, I took it in the 4 Nations section;

1. 1972 Summit Series - Canada win (1)
2. 1976 Canada Cup - Canada win (2)
3. 1981 Canada Cup - USSR win (1)
4. 1984 Canada Cup - Canada win (3)
5. 1987 Canada Cup - Canada win (4)
6. 1991 Canada Cup - Canada win (5)
7. 1996 World Cup - USA win (1)
8. 1998 Olympics - Czech win (1)
9. 2002 Olympics - Canada win (6)
10. 2004 World Cup - Canada win (7)
11. 2006 Olympics - Sweden win (1)
12. 2010 Olympics - Canada win (8)
13. 2014 Olympics - Canada win (9)
14. 2016 World Cup - Canada win (10)
15. 2025 4 Nations Cup - Canada win (11)
4 championships in the last 15 years. I would suggest that many of the young players who had so much success in the past 5-7 years are now repeating that success at the senior level. Just review the number of American players who key members of their NHL teams. Every position from goaltenders to defencemen to forwards has U.S. players that are All-Stars or winners of individual trophies such as Norris, Art Ross, Richard, etc. is there one Canadian goaltender who could have beaten out any of the goaltenders selected to play for the U.S. at the recent tournament?

We’ve only started to see the wave of American talent that will be making their mark on the game.

The future dominance of U.S. in hockey is inevitable. And there’s little we can do about it. The weight of the metrics are against us.

Bennett is definitely a gamer gonna be curious to see how much he gets this summer

He's a warrior and the type of player you want on your third line in the playoffs. He can also suit up in the top 6 if needed

He's a very good exemple of "intangibles" and of stats don't say everything. If you only look at the guy DB the impression you get is that he's an average 40-50pts forward. He bring so much more to the table though
