Both 2017 draft picks.

Both are struggling heavily this season (albeit, Pettersson has shown a far higher ceiling thus far).

Both really seem to need a change of scenery.

I've been wrong before, but this might actually not be as crazy as it sounds.
First thought—one of Hughes, OEL, or Dahlin would need to convert to a left-shot RD.

I’ve been through a lot of hurt as a Sabres fan but I think this would make me throw up and not watch for a decade. No way.

The finnish propaganda brigade is strong on this one. If you solely read about Dahlin on this site without watching him play like most on here you’d think he’s Lafreniere.

Also he’s a 2018 draft pick ;)

You've been wrong before and you're particularly wrong on this one.

Dahlin hasn't been "struggling". He's had his ups and downs, sure, but he's all of 21 years of age and his offense is already fine. And, no, Pettersson has not shown a "far higher ceiling thus far".

No f***ing way the Sabres do this.

Buffalo declines.

I disagree with OP, don’t see Pettersson as having the higher ceiling. He’s a good player but not a franchise player you build around.

Yeah, Dahlin's had a few bad games this year, but to say he's struggling is a massive overstatement.

There is no way the Sabres do this.

No chance the Canucks do this.

Value aside, it makes no sense for Vancouver. They already have Hughes, who is by far their best player, filling the role that Dahlin would.

No way the Canucks do this. What has Dahlin shown?
"Dahlin's 84 points in 141 games before his 20th birthday are the second most by a teenage defenseman in NHL history, trailing only Phil Housley (143)."
I mean that's one thing he's "shown" and really if you've watched him night in and night out you'd see a ton of examples. He isn't "there" yet and there's been some inconsistency but people need to remember he's only 21 years old. I'd rather take the chance he hits his ceiling and as a defenseman can be more impactful in the role he'd play on the team over a center like Pettersson (who's a fantastic player as well). I have no problem with Canucks fans who'd prefer to keep their established 1C. To each his own.

After .5 ppg Pettersson yeah
Actually Pettersson is the most underrated now because you guys will only trade bag of pucks for him while Dahlin has been praised since he was 18. Playing good or bad, people were still horny of his ceiling while Petersson was always mentioned as Bambi.

Actually he is not. Pettersson is the most overrated. This guy is average at best.
how is he overrated since everyone here keeps saying he sucks? even Canucks fans... you don't make sense

By your logic, Hughes is like Bobby Orr in terms of ceiling. Honestly after few more years, if Dahlin doesn't improve, I don't see how he will hit that ceiling. He has some years to still develop but he if was the best ever then he would have shown it more consistently by now like McDavid or Fox.

Dahlin struggling at 15 in 24 for a defenseman...........yeah not really posting some threads of a defenseman having a goal against because half the shot attempts on our goalies go in without Anderson in net isn't indicative of struggling.

Fox was in his rookie year when he was 21 and put up 42 in 74......and the Rangers have way more offensive talent than the Sabres lmao. You forget that Dahlin started when he was EIGHTEEN its like some people are painfully unaware of this Dahlin is just 21 atm and you think removing the best forwards from the team from last year was going to suddenly make it easy for him this year? Put bad players everywhere around a defender and give them a revolving door in at goalie and see how easy it is. People are still whining even when his production is considerably good for his age because 1 or 2 young Defenseman broke out early all of a sudden every defender has to be superstar out of the gate.

You have to admit though when players like Makar, Heiskenin, Fox, Seider and Hughes entered the NHL, Dahlin will always be compared to them. Maybe Dahlin playing in AHL and developing more or playing more in SHL was a better idea for his development versus bringing him to NHL at age of 18. Think about that and his developmental trajectory.
