Proposal: Petry to LA ?

I'm not sure that they need any help on defense, considering that they're #1 in the league. I think that they'd be better off spending the cap space up front, since they're 20th in the league in scoring.

BTW, is anyone else initially mistaking these proposal threads for rumors because the blue "Proposal" prefix is close in shade to the blue insider (Friedman/Seravalli/McKenzie/etc) prefixes? I suggest that an admin change the prefix color to the same as the "Speculation" and "Value of" prefixes so that proposals join them in not standing out as much.

A veteran (ufa end of season) to help the young defense and insert it into the 3rd defense pair.

A 3rd round 2026 or 4th should be a good price.

What do you think ?
Petry at 37, on LTIR, I mean if he was on waivers, nobody would pick him up

But sure, that's ok

EDIT: Gustafsson might be a better choice from Detroit, but LA would be better off going to another team IMO, better bang for the buck, regarding Petry and Gustafsson.

I think almost anyone on here would happily give him away for free. Perhaps your price is closer to how veteran defenseman loving NHL GMs would view things. Either way or anything between, all yours as far as I'm concerned.

Drew coming back soon we have no need for any defenseman. Can you turn him into a scoring winger then we can talk.

For what it's worth, he declined to waive his no-trade clause for San Jose during the Karlsson talks. If I remember correctly, it was because he wanted to stay closer to his family.

He’s not gonna be moved, one because he sucks, two because he’s old and has some sort of a NTC. He’s probably going to retire after this year. I doubt they move him unless he specifically asks to be traded.

Even though it looks like Albert Johansson may have just flat out, stolen Petry’s spot on the blue line, while he’s been injured, Petry will likely finish the season in Detroit, as their 7th Dman. Then call it quits sometime this summer.

He doesn’t cost them much after Pittsburgh and Montreal get done paying him every month, and he has trade protection. He also had promises from Detroit, he’d finish his contract with the team.

Chiarot is who’s likely going to end up with a fresh start somewhere else. Some say he almost ended up in Edmonton prior to the freeze in December, and may still end up there.

For all the garbage he takes on here, managers like him. As do hockey people. He can absolutely play an important role for any contender. You just don’t want to give him too much responsibility. That’s when he gets himself in trouble. He can’t be who you’re depending on to “carry the pairing.” He’s at his best as a high end role player in a Top 4. Exactly what he’s doing now, being Seider’s sidekick.

Chiarot’s role in Detroit has changed significantly under McLellan/Yawney, and he’s no longer being asked to “lead” the DCore, or has the ear of the coaching staff, like he did for the last 3 years. It’s part of the reason Boughner was fired along with Lalonde. The way they allowed Chiarot so much power over that DCore and decisions that were being made.

If people remember, one of the first comments we heard from McLellan after taking the job was him saying something like, “Having a letter on your jersey doesn’t equal playing time or how good you are.”

That was 100% directed at Ben Chiarot. They’ve given him some time to adjust and he’s played well, but there’s talk he’s not exactly happy with having to take a backseat, after being asked to do so much by the last coaching staff.

So a fresh start with a new team and a new role is probably best for both Chiarot and the Red Wings. He’d probably be a good fit in LA, as long as he knows his role going in.

For money Detroit paying him , he is actually pretty good. In Detroit he was in the second pair, should be ok as third pair in any team

Not sure if this is satire? Petry has been f***ing trash his entire tenure in Detroit.

I dunno if he previously had athleticism to cover for his shitty decision making or what, because he was a good defensemen at one time, but he is now both dumb and slow.

Petry would be our 8th defenseman at best, and I am not sure he’s better than England or Burroughs either.

He's non NHL level anymore.

If he's not getting blown by, he's completely abandoning his assignment to chase guys on the left side of the ice... He did it one time on a PK with OV right in his office. Predictably, OV buried it.

Petry is not trash. He's an NHL Dman that is closing in on a 1,000 games played. He's certainly not a top pairing Dman but he's a serviceable down-lineup player.

Trash is Madison Bowey, Jordan Oesterle, Troy Stecher, Patrick Nemeth, and other defensive luminaries that Detroit had on their blueline prior to the Chiarot/Petry days.

I think a lot of Wings fans have real short-term memories when it comes to how far the roster has improved compared to 3 years ago.

I think you haven't watched Petry play a whole lot in the last year and a half. I literally said he was a good defensemen at one time. He is not anymore.

I watch every game.

I can objectively say that, yes, the diminished Petry today is still better than the aforementioned players at any time during their stint with the Wings.

He's great at blowing his coverage completely or getting dusted, that's for sure.
