Let's hope he regains his form from a year or two ago, and plays to his prior set of expectations
is this a joke lol. cam ward is 34 and has been bad for six years straight. even at $1.5m i wouldn't have brought him back. at least there may be some upside here.We made the most beloved goalie in franchise history walk to Chicago so we could save $1.5M on this guy.
**** my life.
Seriously no. Why? What sense did that make? We can scout him just as good playing for other teams.
I agree he has the highest ceiling because he still has a little unknown about him. I like him more than Lehner, and I’m glad it’s only one year. And cheap. I’m also glad we didn’t waste a Skinner or Faulk trade on a desperation goalie trade.
I think with Carolina's defense he will be better, wings had no defense and not sure how Philly compares but I know the canes will give him confidence.

Now we get a full trial year instead of a trial quarter-season. Could blow up just as bad or work just as well. But it seems like a question better answered on a wasted season then the entirety of next year.
I'm really disappointed, such a risky decision.
He's been a mess the last few seasons, which is exactly what Carolina doesn't need. Have to just hope he still finds his potential from few years ago, he's young, atleast.
what is this based on, exactly? how do you know there was even any attempt to sign him? they could have very easily determined that cam ward isn't a starter caliber and decided to move on, because going with the exact same goalie tandem that failed us last year isn't a good idea. darling bouncing back is a huge question mark, and cam ward pretty much is guaranteed not to be more than a decent back-up.Cam Ward is a backup.
Petr Mrazek is a slow start away from the AHL.
“There may be some upside” is what you do when the other guy isn’t Scott Darling.
This was a weak, money-driven move.

We would’ve given desperately needed assets when we had no chance. That move would’ve have been a tryout, it would’ve been a make the playoffs move and when it failed it would’ve been hung on him too. And it probably would’ve costed more to resign him to stay rather than save him in UFA like we just did.Now we get a full trial year instead of a trial quarter-season. "Does everyone agree with me now?"
"No"
"LET ME EXPLAIN MYSELF YET AGAIN"
This is the hard truth. Canes let Camk walk to save $1.5 million.
Picture game 10 of the season. Mrazek and Darling both are 1-4 and look like ass. The Canes are ****ed and I’d give this outcome 50/50 odds.
There were no "good" decisions left.

edit.
I do think this was the only kind of situation Mrazek could make it in. Duller spotlight, extended time to work through his issues, here from camp so he can build some momentum. I like him to be honest. If it was Ward and Mrazek I’d actually be mildly optimistic.
