Obviously professional athletes are held to a higher standard on this stuff, and they should be, but I've known people that have gained weight because of issues in their lives, and not just because they were lazy, bad people. He may just be a jerk that was happy to cash in big one time. I'm not discounting that as a possibility. None of us knows for sure. I just don't think him being a lazy, bad person is the only explanation. At least he seems to be trying to correct the issue.
I think it’s pretty apparent he’s not a “bad” guy. You can usually just tell an awful person when you see/meet one, and he’s never given me that vibe at all.
For me it’s more that he seems to be dealing with issues that are beyond professionalism and more into the realm of core psychological fitness. Of course we all hope he conquers his demons and has a great bounceback. But I’m sure every one of us has dealt with people who are “taking a new approach professionally and personally”. It’s one of those things where you don’t stake your heart and soul on a happy ending.
I will bet up to 2 (two) people here $20 (twenty dollars) that the Carolina Hurricanes have a higher team save percentage this coming season than they did last year.
I’d take that, except that Darling was such a statistical outlier that it almost seems impossible to replicate. Almost any given goalie could just derp himself into a better stat line. The odds favor more pucks hitting him based purely on random luck.
But I wonder, would you bet against the Canes having a bottom-5 save percentage?
Some people are at the end of their rope and I can't blame them.
That’s pretty much where I am. It’s just visceral anger at the organization at this point. JR sold us on 3 solid years of futile playoff pushes even after the last group was beyond saving, then Francis sold us on 5 years of patience to build up a contender. Here we are and what do we have to show for it? Glaring holes in the two most important positions, a team that looks like it could
eventually compete for a
playoff spot but doesn’t look like it has anywhere near the fundamentals to compete for a Cup. This makes me angry. Angry at JR, angry at Francis, angry at Waddell, angry at Karmanos, angry at Dundon. There’s nothing else left to feel. If you really want a completely rational response, it would be “Screw this, I’m going to be a Leafs fan for a while. See you guys after the next 5 year plan.” The fact that I still have it in me to even engage with this organization enough to get mad at them is probably a sign of some sort of cognitive impairment on my part.
