Peterborough Petes 2024 25 Season Thread Part Ii

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Interested to see what happens this offseason. This team needs to add some talent and really start to take some steps forward next season. Priority selection, import draft, past draft pick signings, this team needs to make some savvy moves. Certainly don’t want them or expect to get desperate but I do have a feeling that this will be a notable offseason for this team in both acquisitions/potential changes. Should be interesting either way.

What won’t change is our unwavering love for this team and our support for the players that wear the maroon and white! GO PETES GO!

Said it before but there’s probably 7-8 new guys at a minimum come next year. Novotny, another import, top 4 pick and 3 new OA’s. Could be and should be a lot of new faces next year.
Do you foresee any changes behind the bench? Asking for a friend.

How about a combination of instant chemistry and offense?!
If it happens I wouldn’t be opposed to having Matijicek back as a OA then. I’d prefer him over Kaiser
Agreed, but a report in the Examiner says that Matejicek is likely to return home to play pro in Czechia next year.

IMO, the Griva twins should definitely be on Oke's radar at the import draft if increasing to three imports/team is on the table this season.
They are eligible for the upcoming NHL draft.

Here is an article from back in August at the Hlinka/Gretzky tournament that talks about them.

What we learned on Day 4 of the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup

Imports to have on the radar after winning a championship with Novotný and the Griva twins in 2026/2027:wave:

I was at the last home game and he was out on the ice with the OA's after the game ended waving goodbye - so my assumption at the time was that he must be planning on not returning to Peterborough (or the OHL)

The Wycisk guy looking pretty good- 6pts in 3 games so far. 1G 5A- 3 primary powerplay tallies and the 1 secondary, also a primary shorthanded tally. On paper seems like a special teams specialist and a great playmaker.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the D, personally. I like your idea of adding a solid OA next year to help out. The lack of scoring is what concerns me and I think it's what they need to address in the draft and offseason. There's been no indication that Young, Addy or Taylor will improve next year (you could argue that Taylor and Addy regressed this season, in fact) so I hope they'll be looking to add scoring.
With the D core and goaltending that's available, the offence is by far the biggest thing that needs to be addressed. Far too many games that were held to one or less goals for.
These four love to jump in the play which is good at times but need to learn the defensive side of the game. Cameron is fearless and blocks a tone of shots, Ula looks for big hits but all need to learn how to move bodies in front so the goalies can see the puck. They all seem to want to take off on the offence instead of worrying about the house in their own end.

I feel with the Forwards they need to be consistent with their lines earlier in the season so they find chemistry earlier and can put more points up. They’ve done a lot better in the second half when lines are consistent.
There were certainly lots of times when it seemed the defence was a bit fed up with the forwards not scoring and tried to do it on their own. But as mentioned above, that's what the forwards are supposed to be doing and the spot where the team is lacking quite a bit at the moment. Injury problems throughout the entire year didn't help any either but with a deep talent pool that can be played through, that certainly wasn't this season.

With the assumption that the imports are capped at 2 that was likely the plan but if the numbers change it could certainly change his plans too, similar to the NCAA changes, won't really know till everything shakes out.

Speaking of import players though, congrats to Tommy Purdeller who won ICEHL Rookie of the Year this season.
