Do they really need another project though they’ve already got that with Taylor and Addy
That’s a big hesitation for sure. I would only entertain it at the right price. Flints last 5 lineups, Martin has been the 4th line LW three times and the other two was 3rd line LW. a project might be the only thing we could acquire at a lower cost but to your point, would the team be any further ahead?

I’d flip Addy for Martin if that was something Flint would entertain.

I thought the deadline to get down to 3 OA was last week? Does anyone know when they need to be down to 3?

The one that got away... This stretch has only solidified one thing for me and it is I hope that Oke and this team never outright try to buy a championship again. We should be able to draft and develop year over year where we don't need to be hellbent on going all in with a specific age group (the '03s when we won) and instead can make necessary roster adjustments without breaking the bank and trading all of our picks and high end players like Nick Lardis and Jack Van Volsen that I wish were still on this team. I know I may sound like a broken record here but I never want to cut this deep again with this hardcore of a rebuild, when we instead could have age groups waves of talent that allows us to remain competitive year after year as opposed to only aiming for success once every three or four years. Obviously some buying and selling would take place, but the highs and lows will never reach what we are going through now...
This hurt in this rebuild is more a product of losing the 20-21 season and not being able to recoup assists from 19-20. The haul from trading nick Robertson alone would have filled the cupboards which those players would be on the team now.

Fair but that’s just an easy excuse now. How about drafting better?

It's not like they had a ton of picks. In 2022, JVV may have been a bad pick but it doesn't matter, he served his purpose in getting the Petes a star via trade. McCallum is a very good 4th round pick, Rye in the 5th the jury is out but those were the first three picks because of trades.

Similar in 2021, the first five picks were Lardis, Lewis, Guo, Page, McCue. Lewis was obviously a swing and miss but the rest are pretty fine for where they were picked with McCue being a great 7th round pick.

2023 again, the first four picks were/are OHL players in Cameron, Cadorin, Ladds and Johnston. I think time will prove Ladds in round 5 a very good pick and I don't know if Cadorin is actually a bad pick or just Wilson nonsense.

So 2023 looks like they got 2 good players with the other 2 on the roster debatable Parish is a depth piece and Marentette I don’t get but whatever. 2022 I’d say the jury is still out on McCallum he’s got zero goals this year and spends the majority of time in the box instead of on the ice. 2021 they got 2 lardis and McCue both good picks outside of that Guo and Page are just depth guys. Outside of McCue they haven’t found much success in finding I’d call them top 6 players more just depth pieces in the later rounds. Imo they need to have more success in the middle rounds you definitely need to hit on third and fourth round picks

I think you should check your expectations. McCallum has more points in the OHL than all but one player (Lukas Fischer) selected after him, the top six guys from the later rounds are unicorns, not the norm.

Those 3 drafts after rounds 5 they’ve really only got McCue to show for. Page, partridge and Parish are 4th liners or borderline ohl players

That is why this coming draft is VERY important for the future sustained success of this organization. Five picks in the first three rounds. Oke could flip one of the 2nds and/or thirds into the future but either way there could be a lot of high end talent available to the Petes in these pick ranges and they need to get it right. Good chance the Petes will land one of Keaton Ardagh/ Charlie Murata/ Camryn Warren with their first pick, which will be another franchise type of player like Colin Fitzgerald was last year. Last time the Petes had two second round picks was the 2020 draft where the Petes selected Donovan McCoy (1st rd, 15th overall), Sam Alfano (2nd rd, 23rd overall), Justin DeZoete (2nd rd, 35th overall), with no 3rd round pick that year. The 2020 draft was the last time the Petes had a 2nd round pick until this most recent OHL draft where Blake Gowan was selected 32nd overall. They need to get some high end talent in this draft and even if they deal some picks to future drafts (which they may) because this is a great pick base to work with.

2025 OHL Draft
- PBO 1st (Top 4)
- OTT 2nd
- FLNT 2nd
- KGN 3rd
- WSR 3rd

There were 1 then 4 picks in ‘22 & ‘23; and one of those 1sts was traded during the run. Those drafts did not stand a chance of looking good.
What I don’t understand is why the Petes did not use excess picks from the sell to help out the ‘07-1sts. There were ‘06s to be had in the off-season, some cheap; Vermuelen 6th, Doherty 5th. Newton back in JrA for a 3rd year has more offence in him than most Petes. Gisolia, one of the available ‘05s went to Kingston for a 5th. Chromiak 7th, 8^

That was one of the best games they played this year. I'm not sure how much you can put on Rye, the first and third goals, he had very little chance on, the second was a bad bounce.

Regardless, if they play like that and lose the rest of the year, I can handle it. They pushed back, generated shots and offense and generally were more assertive and aggressive all game long.

A couple shout outs - Caden Taylor made two great defensive plays, coming back deep into his own zone, into traffic, breaking up a play and getting it safely out. I've been critical of his defensive game but he showed great commitment tonight.

McCallum made a few great plays to break up chances in the Petes end and create them in the other. The people here who want him traded or think he isn't a huge part of this core are out of their minds.

Aiden Young gets better all the time, he's the 07 forwards I have the littlest concern about and Genc Ula is going to be so good in a couple years.

It's probably not ideal for this to be the case given what it cost to bring in Addy, Taylor and Young but I'm not sure the strength of this team down the road isn't the 07/08 D - Cameron, Gowan, Ula and Ladds. Is that foursome maybe ahead of the future top 6 forwards - i.e. Fitzgerald, Young, Taylor, Addy, Levac?, Parish? in their progression and maybe even long term upside? Maybe it was always going to be that way on a Rob Wilson team.

2 things. Petes played well there’s been a lot of times this season they’re either tied or leading in the third and they have a bad 5 minutes and the games over. Second Addy played minimal minutes tonight buried on the 4th line he’s gonna have to earn more ice time and trust or maybe a change of scenery is gonna be needed come deadline time
