As Wilson said in Examiner Game 3 was the Petes best game of the year. And he means they played the defensive system to a T and allowed few quality chances on net. Don't love the dumb penalties the Petes took though, including three by Hayes. There were limited or no replays on most of the penalties so we don't see what actually happened. But water under the bridge.
Wolves fan here; despite being a bit more unsung, Spearing has definitely been one of the MVPs of the Petes in this series. Really enjoy watching him play defensively.

Good call djs.......with White out of the lineup and the Petes going with 6 D instead 7, I'm sure there was some concern about how they would hold up.
All 6 guys have been pretty solid - nothing flashy, just good positioning, playing physical, getting pucks out and blocking shots.......and then blocking more shots!:D Spearing plays tough but disciplined and I think he is great in the room. There was plenty of talk about upgrading him with a better OA but so far, so good.

The question was never whether Spearing was a quality player. The question is always whether he will stay in the lineup. Spearing is a prototypical playoff D-Man, especially at OA. If he were a 60+ game per year guy, there would have been zero questions about keeping him at the deadline. I know some wanted him moved because of his laundry list of injury issues…

Spearing brings a lot to the team and being the Captain that is expected. He has been criticized by some here for his play (me too at times) but I have quietly admired his play for a while now.. He's aggressive and works hard. He's not skilled with the puck but he gets the job done.

Yep. And it's pretty much impossible not to root for the kid.

What a f***ing joke no penalty on that hit to Hayes. Absolutely ridiculous
Agree total joke-

Didn’t that Robertson just return from a suspension for the same thing ?

And hehehe-I like how Othmann went after him a couple of shifts later -good to stand up for your teammates and not take a penalty

Ok, is it just my internet but the feed on chl is about 2 minutes slower than their headline with the scores and time. The roberston goal was posted prior to the faceoff.

I speak for all of us when I say that I REALLY hope that Avery Hayes is alright. Prayers to him
Lots of prayers and healing energy -he didn’t look good going off the ice.
Also to McCoy, Melee, Mayer and anyone else that gets in the way while Sudbury does the dirty !

And Othmann is such a team player -god love him
He is stood up to Robertson for hurting Hayes -he helped McCoy off the ice he is not taking any retaliatory penalties at all-love that !

Sweep!!! Great series. Was a hard fought battle wolves and wolves fans. Was very enjoyable and felt like real playoff hockey

I totally agree with your comments on Othmann being a team player. I am impressed. There was a lot of negative comments on this thread and throughout the city calling him a cancer etc. Just shows that we don't what goes on behind the scene.

Will be good to have time off till atleast next tuesday or wed.
I suspect the next round will start Thursday or Friday next week. There is a chance we could have home ice advantage. The North Bay versus Mississauga and the Barrie versus Hamilton series are tied at 2 games each and if the impossible happens and both Mississauga and Hamilton wins their series the Petes would play Hamilton in the second round.

Missy has played a very good series against a formidable north bay team. Hamilton is very well coached and you can see it .

Watching the Petes versus Sudbury series I am reminded of the playoffs in the late 1989 and 1990. In both years most of the Petes playoff game were close games usually decided by one or two goals and often the winning goal was scored late in the second period, in the third period or in overtime. The Petes played sound defensive hockey and took advantage of other teams mistakes. Special teams were key and it was a team effort. I see a lot similarities with how this year’s Petes team has played in the Sudbury series. In the 1989 playoffs they had a player who was part of that strong defensive game and his name was Rob Wilson.

Congrats to the Petes. By taking the series in 4 games, as mentioned already, this allows some rest for the banged up and bruised. Hayes and White will benefit from the time, I hope Hayes isn't concussed. It's crazy what's happening in the other Eastern series' but it helps the Petes, the longer they go.. To be honest I thought the Petes-Sudbury series would go 6 or 7 games.

Some good stuff in here. Wilson said that McCoy is fine, and they are still waiting on the prognosis for Hayes. Hayes did come out to the ice to celebrate with the team. Here's hoping Hayes can use this next week and a half to heal up and it is nothing too serious

Sudbury media reported that Hayes was cut by his own stick on the hit. Hopefully, it's just a cut and no concussion or anything.

The Petes coaching staff put together a solid game plan and the players are buying into “the system”. This team is all about grinding the opposition down over the course of the game. Now that it is the playoffs it also becomes a case of grinding teams down over the course of the series.
The team discipline + PK units may have been the MVP (Most Valuable Parts) of that Sudbury series.
The Petes had 27 PPs compared to 13 for Sudbury.
On Sudbury’s PPs they scored twice while the Petes had 3 SHGs.
Heading into round 2 the Petes can’t expect to have the lopsided # of PPs advantage again but special teams will be crucial.
Thrilled to see contributions across the lineup - Melee, McCoy and Gauvreau have stood out for me. In the trade that received least fanfare Oke picked up Gauvreau for Guo. I’m sure this trade will be great for Guo in the long run with Saginaw hosting the MC next year, but I would be concerned if the Petes were relying on Guo on the backend instead.
Hoping the injuries to Hayes, McCoy and White aren’t too serious.

Further to @Bra Wavers excellent round 1 breakdown, here is the point producers after that 4 game sweep. Great distribution from 1st to 4th line as well as the d pairings and Michael Simpson was fantastic once again. Keep on going #GoPetesGo

I think there’s some salty fans in northern Ontario city that starts with the letter S….

Hopefully Hayes, White and McCoy are ready for the next round. Hayes has been a driving force lately.
