I should have bolded it but I was talking about this part of your post when referring to it not even being bad.

Well, It wasn't exactly a compliment, was i wrong?

I never said i had a gripe with the PBP guy. The only real "issue" i have with him is him calling the oppsoitions goals like he is at a funeral but at least that's understandable. Personally i don't like it but i'm not an Avs fan. Then again i'd have to guess Avs fans wouldn't want to hear SCORE!!! for opposing goals so like i said, at least understandable. What McNab did was just straight stupid.

(I will say however, the PBP goal calls for the rangers goals were fine)

Some people have such thin skin.

Avs announcers didn't celebrate when opposing team scored. Worst announcers ever.

I could care less if McNabb and Haynes were replaced. The only good thing Altitude has going for them is Mark Rycroft. That, and the time Keefe called him Penis McNabb.

As for the clip itself. Yikes, McNab. I actually thought he was off the air when he said that. Sometimes on Game Center you can hear the feed of them talking even though they aren't broadcasting at the moment. He sounded like a whiny little kid there.

McNab hates the Rangers. He played two years for the Devils when they sucked. Then he broadcast games and saw the Devils take a back seat every year and lose two emotional playoff series, especially 1992 when a massive brawl broke out and Messier was getting away with everything but stabbing people with a butterfly knife.

I thought it was funny. Massively unprofessional, but funny nonetheless.

He's hated the Rags and their fans well before that, he went into the stands against them.

For those who may not be old enough to remember:

Milbury gained notoriety for what occurred following a 4–3 Bruins victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on December 23, 1979. During an on-ice fray between the players from both sides, a Rangers fan cut Stan Jonathan's face with a rolled-up program and grabbed his hockey stick. Terry O'Reilly climbed over the Plexiglas and went into the stands in pursuit of the offender, followed by Peter McNab and other teammates. Milbury, who had actually reached the visitors locker room when his teammates started going into the stands, raced back to join his colleagues in the brawl. He caught the unruly spectator, removed one of his shoes and, while holding the heel end, slapped him hard once with the sole side before being restrained.

The offending fan was fined $500 and sentenced to six months in jail. This incident also resulted in the installation of higher glass panels enclosing rinks in hockey arenas.

Also of note: Some of you may be under the false impression that the movie Slap Shot was parodying this event. In actuality this was life imitating art as Slap Shot came out two years PRIOR to this happening.

EDIT: For those who might not know, NY and BOS hated each others guts in the 70's, where McNab played from 76-84.

There are lots of reasons to hate the rangers and their fans, but the "let's go rangers" chant isn't one.

The hivemind against the Avs announcers has snowballed to ridiculous levels. I really don't see why threads like this are kept open

Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you. I have nothing against the Avs announcers, but this particular instance was pretty bad. I thought ripping into the other teams fans was strictly verboten... I don't care how many have invaded the building.

I never had a problem with the Avs guys, Haynes actually makes me laugh with his calls sometimes.

That was some dumb **** from McNab though.

I can't stand listening to the Avs announcers. I won't say the worst, because I haven't heard every broadcast often enough to make a fair comparison. But I've just never enjoyed listening to them. While they will praise the opposition, they go over the top with their homer comments.

The best part pf all of this is, it was a joke. Can't believe the people in here judging it off of a 7 second clip. Immediately after they go on talking about his "rivalries in the past" with the rangers, it's clearly a friendly jab.

Was there a thread from when he was "complaining" "a players helmet comes off and he keeps playing, a goalies helmet comes off and they call the play"...was that serious too?

Reevaluate your lives.

The "Potvin Sucks" chant is pretty ****ing stupid, and I'm a Rangers fan. It's one thing if you're talking about a genuinely awful player or a Rangers player who was once considered bad but turned out to be great for them. But Denis Potvin is one of the greatest player of his generation and it seems like a chant you're hear from a whiny, bitter fanbase out of jealously from their crosstown rivals.

Yep, pretty much.

The rangers fans have had nothing to be jealous of for the last 30 years when it comes to their crosstown rivals. That's for damn sure.

I'm sure he was referring to the Potvin Sucks chant. I think he meant to say the Rangers fans are in the building and they're going "Let's go Rangers!" and they're even chanting that stupid chant that they do, meaning "Povin Sucks" and him calling it that stupid chant because he doesn't want to say it. I think his mouth and mind weren't on the same page and he just worded his point incorrectly.

I just don't think he would be calling the Let's Go Rangers chant dumb. I think he meant: They say Let's go Rangers AND ALSO that stupid chant that they do, he just much mouthed his way through it so it sounded like he was calling the Let's Go Rangers chant dumb.

It's not based on jealousy, it was because Potvin ended Ulf Nilson's career with a hit, so following that Rangers fans would chant Potvin sucks and such, heckling one of a rival teams' best players, as many fanbases do. It's stuck around all these years as more of a tradition.

Lol @ Avs fans telling people they are petty or to reevaluate their lives because they happen to have a different opinion of someone on an internet forum. Oh the horror!

Mike Haynes has always treated the Rangers well. I was in Denver from day 1 of the Avalanche. As for McNab, that is pretty out of character for him, but wasn't he part of the Bruins crew that went into the Garden stands in the Milbury shoe game?

Yes he was.

I didn't think this clip was a big deal. In fact, listening to the whole thing it's almost a compliment about how well Rangers fans are represented all over the continent.

And I actually have to side with Avs fans on this one about their announcers. I've watched Blues and Avs game on Colorado's feed, and while it's kind of becoming a rivalry, I don't think I've ever heard them say a negative thing about the Blues or be biased against them in any way. Actually sounded like they liked quite a few Blues players a lot to be honest.

I think the whole thing about their calls on other team's goals is a bit overdone too. Sure the Foligno clip is funny to watch, but who really cares? It's the Colorado feed. I don't want a broadcast to be completely biased, but at the same time, sometimes you just don't want to hear your announcer acting all excited about the other team winning the game. Am I alone in that thinking? It's different if you're someone like Randy Hahn who is doing a Sharks games on NBCSN, but this wasn't the case.

Why are Avs fans acting like their commentators are doing something amazing when they're praising other teams/players? Thats their ****in job, they don't get paid to be homers and ***** about the other team...

LOL. Doesnt every team do the "Lets go (insert team name here)" thing? I don't get it. Hate our goal song, hate our Potvin sucks chant, but really? Hate the generic "lets go (insert EVERY EFFIN SPORTS TEAM EVER HERE) chant"?

Sounds like hes mad that the Rangers have a lot of fans on the road, like in Colorado, Phoenix, LA, San Jose, etc. News flash, NY is a popular place.
