Peter McNab on the Rangers fans

I watched the Rangers broadcast last night, so I missed that. But something to note is that the pxp man, Mike Haynes, grew up a Rangers fan in New York, so that may have just been a dig towards him. They are usually pretty bland and as innocuous as possible as a commentator duo. That's like the edgiest thing Peter McNabb has ever said on the air.

Mike Haynes has always treated the Rangers well. I was in Denver from day 1 of the Avalanche. As for McNab, that is pretty out of character for him, but wasn't he part of the Bruins crew that went into the Garden stands in the Milbury shoe game?

I was honestly surprised the Play by play announcer even called the rangers goals properly. Usually you could hear a pin drop when an opposing team scores but you could actually hear him say score for the rangers goals

The only reason the Altitude crew isn't as loathed as Pittsburgh and Boston's (both very legitimately) is because they're, well, the Avalanche crew. You're not getting stuck with them on the NHL Network ~10 times a year and they're simply easier to avoid. Easily the worst announcing crew in the West.

McNab hates the Rangers. He played two years for the Devils when they sucked. Then he broadcast games and saw the Devils take a back seat every year and lose two emotional playoff series, especially 1992 when a massive brawl broke out and Messier was getting away with everything but stabbing people with a butterfly knife.

I thought it was funny. Massively unprofessional, but funny nonetheless.

Everyone talking about Haynes and McNab sound like guys who have no idea what they're talking about. Are they overly positive about the Aves? Yes, they are but they're also overly positive about the other team. You should hear them talk about the other stars of the team. They rarely whine about penalty calls. The only thing that Haynes does is that he doesn't call the other team's goals with any enthusiasm. Guess what, those are the calls you hear in the highlights. People just assume that they are the biggest homers but actually listen to a game and you'll see that is wrong. They praise both teams throughout the game which is frustrating because as an Aves fan, I don't want to hear about how good Pavel Datsyuk is or how amazing Teemu Selanne is. Plus with the way the Aves are playing this year, I don't want to be lied to about the talent level of the team.

That's simply not true. There isn't an announcing crew in the league that whines more than the Blackhawks' announcers. Every. Little. Thing. It MUST be a penalty on the opposition, and can never be a penalty on the Hawks because hey, they can do no wrong.

Haynes and McNabb are huge homers, I'll give you that. But that's what regional broadcasters are supposed to be. But they talk a lot about other teams in a positive light and love when teams come into Denver that don't show up often so they can see players they don't see often. Haynes doesn't call away goals with any enthusiasm, but he's not supposed to be joyous. Altitude doesn't pay him to be joyous for opposing teams' goals. But I've never heard these two question calls on the Avs and whine about calls that the other team is getting or isn't being called for like some broadcast teams

The Minny crew exists, they whine (99% of the time incorrectly) about pretty much everything, the Avs crews are homers but they at least give the other team credit (they have a love affair with the Seinds), and I rarely hear them whine about could be penalties.

The hivemind against the Avs announcers has snowballed to ridiculous levels. I really don't see why threads like this are kept open

This so much. For as much as they are homers, they do one thing that not even half the other announcing crews do: genuinely talk positively about the other teams, other coaches and other players on a consistent basis - and do it without complaining about bad calls/non-calls, or about opposing players' questionable on-ice actions.

(Side note to Brick: It's Avs not Aves. I've actually never heard of a fellow Avs fan spelling it that way till now, it's usually always other team's fans)

"Nash has an assist tonight, but that's it and nash....scores.......you're kidding me. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME"

Yeah that sounds pretty flattering

Regardless, A comment like that mentioned on air is absolute garbage regardless of debates of who is worse in the league or regardless if it's a Avs telecast. Even the people running the Avs telecast can't think that is professional in any sense.

Most annoying announcers in the world not just NHL are Ducks announcers and Blues Pang and Kelly. It's a toss up between those two, you make the call which one is worse.

Did you miss the part at the beginning of the game where they were praising Rick Nash? They were talking about the leading scorers of the league. They were comparing Ovechkin with Nash and McNab said that he believed that Nash was having a better season than Ovechkin. Also if you tune into any of the Avs games other than the one yesterday, you'll know that the McNab and Haynes ALWAYS praise Rick Nash. His name constantly gets brought up when they show the leading scorers of the league and they always praise him.

But yeah let this one incident that isn't even bad help you form an opinion on them.

1) The "one bad" comment i was talking about was the guy whining about the rangers fans chanting lets go rangers, as if that's not the most generic chant in hockey for any team. Oh no the rangers fans are loud in our arena, lets mock them!

2) a positive doesn't cancel out a negative. Why even bother saying the negative at all.

And yes "that" bad comment was certainly THAT bad. It makes the people that hired him look like idiots when they can't hire someone that can't even act professional on air or at least mute his mic to spew his non sense.

I should have bolded it but I was talking about this part of your post when referring to it not even being bad.
