It has to be put into context, it appears that he's referring to not answering yes or no in terms of a new deal (I guess you could argue this doesn't sound great in itself). Not flat out saying he's not re-signing.

i'd rather him just give us a straight answer. we all know we can't afford to lose him for nothing

I guess that Perry is just saying that he is his own man and he isn't going to be following Getzlaf like a puppy because he signed already. He's going to resign or not, but it has nothing to do with Getzlaf's action. As a fan this of course worries me, hard to read this guy. It really seems like it's a 50-50 -situation for him.

The more I think about it the more I think Perry is a goner and we need to trade him asap. Try to not get much of any contracts back and only get picks and good prospects. With his nearly $6 million off the books as well as Saku, Lydman and Teemu come off the books we can either sign a free agent or make a big trade.
We cannot afford to pull another Failure in asset management. We have already lost out two best D prospects with Gardiner and Schultz being traded/leaving. If Perry leaves and we get nothing then we are screwed.

I think it would be disingenuous of Perry to say his answer would change based on this signing. Perry has to do what he thinks is best for Perry.

I think it would be bad for Perry to say anything in the press but I could see where his answer could be somewhat dependent upon what Getz does.

Perry may end up leaving but I think it is a huge positive for us retaining him, that Getz is now signed.

To me, Getzlafs contract can mean two things:

1. The Ducks lost their hopes on signing Perry and went all in on Getzlaf to secure that they can sign at least one of them.
2. The owners suddenly told the GM to "******* the internal cap, it's winning time!" and opened the moneygates.

You can choose the story that seems more realistic to you. I'll just be the pessimistic guy here.

This is easy.

Perry signs for 8 mil, you do it.

Spend the next 8 years building youngsters around them to compete.

Perry doesnt want to sign...

Keep money and use money on ufa this year or next, lets youngsters fill in holes and develope.

Trading perry for a legit player or top picks is ok. But i think playing out the season looks like a good option.

Perry's value and role on the team wont easily be returned in any picks or players anyway. So just let the season roll on withiut a trade.

With or without perry, this team will need a new identity next year unless koivu stays.

Selanne... should come back and hit those top 10 all time lists 1 more year :)

Brian Hayward on NHL Live now - just said it's his personal opinion the Ducks will move Perry if he's not signed by the trade deadline.

Well, he's entitled to his opinion but he has no track record of knowing any more than you or me. He wasn't exactly a fountain of information on the Schultz situation.

At least the Getzlaf signing gives them some amount of leverage in the Perry negotiations. I still think Perry doesn't wanna leave Getz, despite what he says. Maybe just wishful thinking.

At least now no team can come in and sign them both.

He also said this:

But the winger did acknowledge that “when you know he’s going to be here for a long time, it could definitely have a factor in my decision.”

Dreger now on NHL Live saying GM's are telling him Perry will command 9-10M.

That's stupid money. He's not good enough to command that. Nobody not named Crosby or Malkin is. You can make a case for Stamkos but I don't think he's worth 10 either.

If perry doesn't sign by then I move him as well. This team can't keep losing blue chip prospects for nothing, and I don't trust this team is a true cup contender. Tough decision for bob, obviously.

the only thing i see perry leaving for is to be closer to his family.....i get that and i respect that... i just think it will be a big change for him to have the +$8M contract on a new team in the east, being the #1 guy and trying to establish himself w/o getz.....not saying he cant do it but he could sign a similar deal w/getz and be a lifer with him and have a shot at breaking all the ducks records and getting his name in the rafters
