There are also the unintended consequences of adding more padding — as we’ve seen with shin guards and visors, players throw themselves even more recklessly into danger when they feel protected from any dangerous outcome. It used to be that almost nobody in the league would stick their face in front of a slapshot like this. Even in this replay, his hands are at his waist trying to play goalie instead of up covering his exposed neck and face. It’s kind of crazy how little self-preservation these guys practice, and a lot of that it dependence on padding to take care of everything.
They’ll have to stop celebrating the injuries first.Scary stuff..
Guys in Edmonton, put away the voodoo dolls. First Broberg and now Holloway
So are the ones who are heavily against it. I just don't get it. It wont make any difference on a situation like this but the cut protection is a no brainer to have. You "mandatory neckguard" people are funny.

I have never crashed my car but I still wear a seatbelt. It doesn't matter if its the players or the fans who's against it, it still makes zero sense to me.Fan opinions on the issue don't really mean much. It's up to the players to decide. I know it's trendy to push them whenever some freak accident happens but they still occur very rarely.

A neck guard only protects against getting cut by a skate. It has no value as a blunt force shield which is what happens when you get hit by a 90mph piece of vulcanized rubber.Time to make neck guards mandatory!

I wonder what happened there.
I had/have SVT, which is an abnormal heart rythym issue, that I ended up having surgery for.
Before the surgery, when I would get a sudden burst in my heart rate, one solution they tell you is to rub the side of your neck, where your carotid artery is, to try and slow the increased rate.
I wonder if the shot hit that area, causing some sort of swelling around the artery or something, causing him to feel weak from a lowered heart rate.
Glad he is doing ok.
This guy here made an interesting analysis of this injury, doctor POV

For the Bouwmeester incident, then didn't call the game, but they postponed the game that was finished a couple months laterThey didn’t call the game when Kane got his wrist torn open or when jiri Fischer and Jay bouwmeester went down. They won’t for this.
I’m against not it though. It was scary

Most of us aren't. Every fanbase has their jerks. As much as I'm still frustrated over the situation, I want both guys to succeed. They’ll have to stop celebrating the injuries first.
I'm not going to get into the need for them to protect them from skates cuts, I understand, though disagree, the argument. But arguing they need it when the player gets hit by the puck as if it would've have protected them is laughable. So are the ones who are heavily against it. I just don't get it. Well, the quality and the design of neck guards can be improved upon.A neck guard only protects against getting cut by a skate. It has no value as a blunt force shield which is what happens when you get hit by a 90mph piece of vulcanized rubber.
The only thing slightly better than this is people like you who see one person post something like this and exaggerate it for your bias. They’ll have to stop celebrating the injuries first.
