I grew up on Kelly/Haynes and McNab. Loved them together.

Will take any of those pairings over Moser everyday of the week.

I still dislike Haynes, but at this point, I am starting to come around that he wasn't as bad as I made him be and that it could always get worse lol.
Haynes was great, I never understood the hate for him. Yeah, he and McNab got more into storytelling during the years when the Avs sucked but when there were big games being played and crucial moments, Haynes was spectacular.

I didn't care much for his "they did it they did it they did it!" goal call during his final years but he at least called a smooth game and didn't refer to players by nicknames.

Moser is the worst PbP guy in the league. Rycroft can’t be far from the worst color guy. It’s just pure nails on a chalkboard.
Moser is simply awful. It matters not the situation / context. This year, I am 'enjoying' all of his " That's what I was thinking too, Ryker" moments. If there was any doubt about Moser being clueless, the 6 to 10 instances of this - every damn game - drive the point home.

Ryker has clearly succumbed to the Altitude demand that he be a homer. That mandate applies to the dolts on Nugget broadcasts as well. If you take out all the absurd home cookin' comments, and all the completely unnecessary banter with Moser, Ryker is not bad. He notices a lot of the ice - and in real time. He has the capability to be critical of the Avs. He did it while in the studio, where the buffoonery with Keefe was more acceptable than that with Moser.

This is 2024, not 1924. Games are not on the radio. TV viewers can see what is going on, thus eliminating the need to avoid dead air. I would welcome a little bit of silence over the constant Moser nonsense of all the Moser Bingo terms we have identified over the years, the jokes about drinking Mountain Time, and the constant misidentification of our own players.

I've been watching all the Avs games on mute for a few years now. I'll not go back.
You don't try to watch opposing teams? That's the state I am in now with at least 90% of games on opposing feed. The only ones I will choose Avs overall are games against Wild, Preds, Penguins, Panthers (Goldsmith is brutal), and Oilers (Jack Michaels is better than Moser, but is too much of a homer).

I love Jack Michaels. Even being the homer he is, I don't think he's at the level of Moser and his actual calling of the game is tremendous. Few announcers league-wide bring the enthusiasm he does for both sides when there are big in-game moments.

It's a crime he isn't calling playoff games.

Moser and Rycroft are fine and they're not any different this year than usual.
I suggest you are missing out on superior regional feeds. Seattle, Chicago, Dallas, all the New York teams, Washington, St. Louis, Utah, TB, LA, Vegas, and all the Canadian teams besides Oilers all have great broadcast teams. I highly recommend watching one game of the New York Rangers in particular, the professionalism is outstanding. The Blackhawks and Lightning probably have the best duo of any team at this point. You got Ball+Panger (Darren though a homer, is fairly decent analyst) and then you got Randorf+Engblom (Beasts).

His voice is too high pitch like Goldsmith in Florida, plus he's the Oilers PxP, plus he's a homer, plus he's part of the Oilers. With that written, I do think he's gotten a lot better in the past three or so years, but he's still below average for me.

I want our commentators to side with our team, but not misrepresent what's going on in the game. Nothing wrong with homerism when both teams have their own broadcasts.

They're the worst duo in the league and you wont convince me otherwise. Especially now that Edwards is out of Boston, nobody else even comes close to these two clowns.

I also think they've warped the perspectives of some folks here when it comes to national broadcasts. A lot of people think the national broadcasts just hate on the Avs all the time, but IMO the reality is they're pretty neutral but compared to the dick riding we get from Altitude it feels like the national broadcasts have a deep hatred of this team.

Moser doesn't use nicknames all the time and it's obviously because he talks too fast to say the last or full name all the time. It'd be nice if he didn't always do the Nathan MaaaaaaaaacKinnon bit even when it's not a spectacular goal - too McGahey - but I find with any sport very few commentators are worth listening to these days, so it's probably worth tuning them out a bit if they're that insufferable.

Kinda interesting to note, apart from a couple mentions of his name I didn't even notice that Steven Stamkos was out there. And usual Avs Nemesis Jonathan Marchessault wasn't much of a factor either.

He didn't score on the ensuing chance but I absolutely loved seeing MacKinnon totally scorch O'Reilly in the defensive zone.

Yeah I watched that happen live and thought, “wow, what defensive plug did MacK just burn?” Then noticed it was O’Reilly and it made me so happy.

I am not a fan of Moser either. Never have been.

I think Rycroft is a decent combination of insightful and entertaining. I’m OK listening to him.

I liked Ryker before he became an Avs (especially Georgiev) apologist. He got the full-time gig because fans loved how he'd skewer the team with his breakdowns at intermission, before that he split time with Brian Engblom IIRC. But for some reason when he slid into Maxy's chair he decided to soften up, or he was told to.

I still say ESPN has an absolutely unbearable setup for games. It's embarrassing how amateurish their presentation looks every week. TNT has absolutely smoked them.

Altitude's production is admittedly flawed but I'm sorry, I still don't hate Mose. He most definitely has his flaws, and has always been a better host than a PxP guy, but I still like him better than post-Norm Mike Haynes.

When the team owner owns the TV broadcast it becomes an infomercial so the games on Altitude are just a giant infomercial. The same guy that pays Georgiev is also signing Moser's paycheck.

The guys are doing what they are being told to do. Moser was the most biased radio PbP guy in history and they promoted him on TV. That's clearly what they want.

Altitude, and the Avs, are owned by a married-in member of the Walmart clan. Everything they do is cheap and shitty.

I hate to say it, but I'm really hoping that I'll be able to use AI to have Gary Thorne and Bill Clement call games for me soon.
Trust me, you don't want that.

They're gonna do some bullshit in Star Wars someday where they have Darth Vader talking like a dead actor powered entirely by AI and it's gonna the worst f***ing thing ever.

The fact they haven't found a way to bring Thorne back despite having truckloads of money and resources should tell how how idiotic the guys running ESPN are these days.

I love Thorne but the random games he called I believe for LA showed he needs a slow paced sport. Hockey was too fast for him at his age a couple of years ago.
