Igor: 2.58/.913
vs
Quick: 2.62/.911

got to pay a 12 million dollar premium for that extra .04/.002
Show their playoffs numbers the last season too. (You know, the games that matter, not Quick playing against bottom teams in the reg season)

Huge win for the goalie market. He is looking at 12 million or more and has the rags over a barrel.

Crappy GM’s allow agents and players to make up their own comps

Good GM’s say here’s the goalie market, we’re willing to make you highest paid at this position with a slight bump.

If he’s the best goaltender how come he didn’t win the vezina the past 2 seasons

Asking for a friend
Well in the last 10 years only 1 goalie has won it twice.

Regardless of who is the best goalie, the team in front of you matters. Most are going to use his playoffs and the fact that NYR rely on goaltening a loy more than most teams. At the end of the day it doesnt matter who the best goalie is. It just matters how much you value that goalie.

I guess he wants 12 million a year.

So an extra 8 million over the lifetime of the deal, players get roughly 40% of their contract after everything so around 3.5 million net this is becoming

Maybe he just does not want to play for New York?
I don’t really think he cares who gives him what he feels he is due. Might even prefer New York like he said. Feel like it’s mostly about money though. And that’s fine.

They did that and he refused

8 years is fine but you gotta hope any trade protection falls off after year 5 or 6 just in case. I doubt it, but it would take some of the sting away.

I honestly believe he doesn't want to play in New York anymore.

I can't put my finger on it but something just feels strange about this approach to the extension from both player and team.

If he is worried most about financial gain, I believe he probably wants more a 3-4 year deal and hope he doesn't regress till after so he can get 2 UFA deals before his career ends.

Please sign him NYR!

I don't trust Blake not to go crazy in the Summer & throw a max contract at him.

I don't like that #. Especially over 7 or 8. From an organization's perspective they probably feel handcuffed into having to make that choice.

I don't envy making decisions on goalies as a GM. You can chase a starter forever, progression is weird and performance up and down. Igor is probably good enough that 11.5 is worth not ending up in goalie hell but a goalie always feels riskier as an investment than a 1D or 1C.
