You said it better than I could.

We’ve been lucky. Mario’s body begrudgingly and barely held out long enough so that he could sell enough season ticket packages to keep the team afloat and then pass it to Sid. Odds are, we aren’t going to get lucky enough with another generational player for awhile, if ever. This franchise has never really known a non-tumultuous existence without said generational talents.

We now have a faceless investment firm ownership group with no local ties and the lease on the arena is about half over. Might as well celebrate the past because you never know what the future holds.
Luck, yes, but they also gave themselves a chance by rebuilding properly.
Currently they have no chance to do anything until they commit.
Even 1% is better than 0%.

Keep living in the past you f***ing loser it’s almost been a decade 🙄🙄🙄
Sorry for having a soul

Given that we were a random ping pong ball shifting by a cm away from not getting Sid, I think luck was the cornerstone of our rebuild.

Ask the Flyers what it's like to always chase mediocrity.
Or the team we just played. One third round appearance they got swept in.
That's all they have to show for 23 seasons.

Then go for luck again. Scorched earth. See what happens.
Better than eternal damnation to bubble-out/bubble-in.

Probably because it's equally strange the fans would cheer and weep for him immediately after watching their team roll over and die for the 6th straight time. That wouldn't happen in very many places in this league. Just imagine the reaction when Sully comes back coaching the Flyers to victory here after they s***can Torts
Not the same at all. Fleury had his ups and downs but he was always a great bloke. Did a lot in the community and didn't seek any sort of attention for it and was an easy to like human being. He has his issues in net but he's also going down as one of the top 3 for wins all time while being a part of 3 cups.

It's ok to let fans that he meant a lot to, be happy to see him and being sad to know it's the final time they'll get to see him play.

Geno has been far from an issue this year generally but his trying to dance through 3 defenders at the blue line routine is just sad at this point.

He's probably frustrated that mostly everybody else on the team sucks at hockey but it isn't 2012 anymore either.

This team sucks.

They should have never let Fleury go. Not that it would change that this team sucks but letting him go for Murray was a huge mistake in hindsight. You can't criticize the team for making that call but it ended up just a miserable mistake.
Keeping Murray over Fleury at that point in time was a no brainer move. The fact that it turned out the way it did, no one would have guessed that given the way Murray came on to the scene.

Pretty much what I was saying in the summer. The hopelessness and stupidity of this direction is the worst part.
I'd prefer 0-82-0 and full commitment to weaponizing cap space and acquiring futures.
0-82 is basically saying you'd like to be a 90s expansion team. How long did it take them to become a cup contender?

Judging by how this season is going the Pens are going to tank regardless of not blowing up the roster

0-82 is basically saying you'd like to be a late 90s expansion team. How long did it take them to become a cup contender?
And how long until they're good enough to win multiple rounds with this direction of fence-sitting?
Minnesota tried this. They're on year 24. Still haven't won a 3rd round game. 15 mil in buyout costs this year.

Then that's not a proper tank at all, if assets that can bring back 1sts and 2nds stay.
Pettersson should be gone like tomorrow.

The best way to get to the basement is to let Dubas continue to be Dubas. He’ll get there unintentionally. He’ll screw it up once we’re there, but he’ll get us there.
Just being in the basement isn't good enough. They have to also sell whatever they can.
They need many picks to boost their chances of building a proper foundation.
You start with Pettersson.

Geno has always done that.

Yes.

I'm saying that his best hockey this season has happened when he's played team hockey and the days of him undressing multiple defenders are over.

I've just noticed lately he is trying to play hero more and I figure he is probably frustrated with the ineptitude of the team.

It was rigged. Honestly not sure if I think that was a fair draw or not.
If you really think that a firm like Ernst & Young, which is valued more than the NHL, who conducted and audited the lottery would risk its reputation on a small potato’s event to ensure the team with the best odds got Crosby, then I don’t know what to tell you.

I think the cowardice is pretty much the worst. I could live with us heading in a direction but not panning out, but we don't know if we're rebuilding or trying for one last cinderella story and that's the real issue. Either way, there needs to be a ton of changes regardless of which path we take. It's just so aggravating to see the team absolutely give up at making any sort of decision because it's hard and wallowing in nostalgia because it's cheap and easy.
