I like Koivunen and think he will be a contributor, but McGroarty is really showing something with Sid. He's obviously not a finished product. The game is still a little fast for him at the NHL level, which is common for even first round picks.

But boy is he smart. He always seems to be in the right place. And he's energetic and competitive.

We need to see more. Such a small sample size for now. But the Pens might have a great fit with McGroarty and Crosby in Sid's final years.

New plan:

McG - Sid - Marner next season :sarcasm:

So Rakell will be traded in the offseason then?

I focused on him all day trying to see all these flaws in his game, and he just kept making solid plays

He has the same thing that made Guentzel work amazingly well with Crosby: a superbly high hockey IQ. It's really not surprising he's immediately meshing with Crosby because Crosby has always meshed really well with high hockey IQ players.

Feels like it's been a 90% chance the Pens are drafting 8 forever anyway. Just accept it. Take your Eklund or O'Brien and like it.

Seeing guys like McGroarty look so much better than they did earlier in the year on the top line is encouraging.

Yeah it's really weird because I really like both Eklund and O'Brien and I'm not sure why people would whine about getting them at #8 instead of Desnoyers or Frondell at #5.

If Crosby will play through his age 42 season (so 5 years), they could have a legit playoff caliber top-6 group with Crosby and O'Brien as their top-6 centers before Sid retires.

Ho-hum another 30+ goal and probably 90+ point season in the bank for 37 year old Sid.

Side note: Neither Sid nor Guentzel's production changed at all. Lol. Though Rakell was elevated to a bonafide top line winger and Guentzel plays with not just Point but also Kucherov.
And yet another miss at the playoffs. But the boys are playing hard. There's a lot to be said for that.
