Good play by both Kappy and Smith there.

Smith seems to be a pretty smart player with skill, thats going to be helpful, you already see some of the passes hes making and hes not thinking the game hes reacting

Wish POJ would of made it a hard choice and forced managements hand.

Happy for smith though.

Nah Smith has been excellent in the pre-season. POJ would have had to be top-4 quality to beat out Smith for a spot.

It would have been nice had POJ done that because they could have traded Pettersson then.

I’m happy Smith earned a spot with good play. Just wish POJ would of also had a great camp and forced some decisions to be made.

I missed the Smith goal....

Clean forgot this one was on, team looking as good as the score?

I think POJ has been very decent today, but "very decent" isn't the kind of showing that he needed out here.

I'm just not sure what to do with him. You're going to get basically nothing for him if you trade him, so do you try to get him through waivers and waive him? You risk losing him to waivers if you waive him, but I think there is a very real chance POJ ends up back on waivers later this year if someone else claims him on waivers. That's exactly what happened with Cholowski last year IIRC.

If he's got what it takes you don't get him back, if you get him back he probably doesn't have what it takes.

I think either you need to do some roster jiggery-pokery and keep him and hope he grows while riding a lot of pine, or accept that a slice of bread is better than no bread and trade him.

Honestly, I think the reason to keep POJ is more about D depth than him being this high upside defenseman. It's why I've mostly had the stance of getting whatever D depth you can for him.

If they can redo the Pouliot trade with him, I'll consider that a win.
