"Bandwagon" implies there was a wagon you were in before Pittsburgh. That's why they're "jumpers". I never had another team though.
I've followed them for about as long as you've been alive.
I thought you started as a Canucks fan?

With this coach?

They will not be significantly better.
I see this team placing 10-13th in the East. Sullivan and his dipshit BFF are not fixing anything, just helping Dubas pick higher.

Young legs will change things, and maybe the power play figures it out.

Mindset. I want the hungry, championship-seeking mindset back. That's all I ask for from my team.

The year Tarnstrom was the leading scorer was not when I was miserable. I understood the direction at that point, and supported it.
These last few years of pretending have been much harder to take mentally, because they're willingly limiting the team's progress towards the ultimate goal.
What's even worse is that they're planning for a few MORE years of that, and even the fanbase desires it. It's all very sad for me to witness.
I thought FSG would bring it back, but they lied.

What mindset?

There was no mindset from 01-02 until 03-04. The mindset was we f***ed up every financial agreement possible in the arena and couldn’t afford to pay players like Kovalev, Jagr, etc.

Lemieux had a deal to be the highest player in the NHL. You are saying we need to let Sid walk.

Let’s be real. You didn’t watch the Penguins when Tarnstrom was the leading scorer. You showed up when PIT was winning and now you can’t deal with the fact they aren’t so you need to criticize ownership, coaching, management, etc for not following the typical path of a canadian franchise.

If you understood the early 2000s at all you’d understand we were Minnesota. We were trying to make the playoffs be damned every year. The early 2000 Penguins were ran exactly like this year’s. The focus was on being financial viable in a small market.

The Coyotes were on life support for years and playing in a college arena before they eventually moved. I don't think the Pens are in danger of moving tbh.

I’m a lot more concerned with this team not relocating than I am with them winning 3 cups in the next 20 years again.
I'd be surprised if that happened, to be honest, with how the league is set up nowadays. The cap floor all but insures the Pens will have to spend *some* money to be decent, so they can't be outright as bad as those pre-2005 teams.

Not to mention, how much of team revenues are tied to gate revenue nowadays? Seems like the "big" influx of revenue comes from a]television deals and b]expansion fees since they seem to add a new team every couple of seasons.

BTW if you aren't a band wagoner.

Post um up.

That's some pro street cred right there.

I tried to see if I could find any but I think my folks have most of that. Maybe next time I visit them if I remember.

I came to the Pens in the early 90s as Mario and Jagr were my favorites growing up. I'm not from Pittsburgh so I guess you could call me an early bandwagoner? I I chose by location I would have been a Whalers or Bruins fan.

Pretty happy with the team I picked though obviously lol

I've come to see it the same way. It's actually a good thing if our coaches suck at this point.
If we got a good coach and lost in R1 to some giant, that's not helping anything.

That's especially the case in a deep draft year, like this next one promises to be.
I'd welcome him gone because he exhausts me, but finishing bottom-10 in the league would be really nice.

Also, if we are in terrible standing at the deadline, that will help them maximize the opportunity. It will dissuade them from re-signing Petts. They may trade Bunting too.
Then come next summer, EK might want out already. Can deal him at 50%.

Yeah. From a future perspective, it's too late to take advantage of a good coach now.

Come on. Just because you don't like him and the direction of the team doesn't mean you can't acknowledge the obvious.
Hextall was an idiot. Dubas would never green-light that Granlund trade.

It is what it is.

Dubas cant do anything

like lose McCann for free.
sign Jeff Carter to an extension
Trade 2 middle pair defensmen for a prospect and older woree defensemen
trade for a pp pass specialist

McCann and Tanev out for nothing, Matheson for a broken down Petry, Marino for a bag of pucks, and yeah the Granlund trade...f***ing woof.

Always felt Jeff Carter don't protect him.
Protect McCann and let Tanev for free (since someone has to go)

My Brother is a Canadiens fan and he still is making fun of us for the Matheson Petry trade.

Have to try. Load up on picks as much as possible. Rely on collective roster strength over individual.
Being Minnesota for 20 years is not the way back to the top of the mountain.

Not to mention all the things he didn't do, but said he would. He said he wanted to replenish the farm while he's here. That was a complete garbage attempt.

He really did nothing.

Dubas - removed Granlund Petry - Rutta (I never saw as a cap dump but cap gotta work)
Got Karlsson for a 1st and 2nd but got a 3rd back

Traded Guentzel - call it 4to5 2nds in value

Rielly Smith got for a 3rd traded for a 2nd
Hayes - 2nd + 3rd for 5th
Glass - 3rd and 6th

Bad things Dubas did?

Jarry I was on the fence damned if you do damned if you didn't. Turns out I was wrong and this is bad.

Graves - horrible

Dubas is legit actually doing what he said he would do

I see a lot of MP talk.

If out of playoffs again trade him.

If in playoffs I think we should sign dependent on contract ask.

I think 5.5x7 = 38.5 with moderate protection for 2 years and then a 8 team NTC afterwards can get it done possibly.

MP is not a dime a dozen. He is a top 4 defensemen.

This isn't Dubas' fault though.
Nothing is ever Doobler’s fault. Not his playoff failures with an elite core for the better part of a decade in Toronto. Not coming to Pittsburgh, blowing his wad and a 1st round pick and doing even worse the following year. Not even when he has both the GM and President positions and literally all the power…nope, still not his fault. :nopity:

Doobler SUCKS, man. It might take you a while, maybe even a couple years to figure out the truth, as it did for Leafs fans. But one day, you’ll see it clear as day, just as they did.

Yeah it’s bizarre how we finished worse than any of Hextall’s teams last year, but it’s Hextall’s fault.

I don't need a pic, I was around for "The Option Line", and Robbie Brown when he still had some hair.
I'm so old I had to do a search to confirm for myself that that was Stevens-Cullen-Recchi ... and then I got mad and yelled at a cloud when the top result, a Bleacher Report article, claimed Cullen was traded to Carolina. (Am I surprised? No, just disappointed that SEO internal link strategy triumphs over historical accuracy.)

Anyway, no pic to share. Wish someone had photographed my bedroom wall with the Pittsburgh Press' full-page Pens schedule and my handwritten game scores next to each.

RH didn't really help though with some of the mess he left the team in with some brutal contracts of trades he made. Then Dubas really didn't help with the Jarry and Graves contracts...

What's crazy is that GMJR is by far the best we had in these past 20 years, yes even better than Shero for me. He wasn't afraid of fixing mistakes that he did and most of the time he didn't get fleeced doing so. Probably JJ was his biggest mistake during his tenure.

Hopefully Spezza is smarter and takes over by the end of the season!!

I mean he did what he was supposed to. Compete for a cup no matter what. I think part of the current struggles of the recent GMs is the lack of direction, and the assets JR traded for those Cups.

Is Zadina worth giving a PTO to? Obviously if we can move out 1 or 2 players from now to the start of the season! Still 24 years old

Completely agree, I would love to find out though if a full rebuild was part of their plan but they got shut down by ownership because of the stars on the team. Because in that case GMJR wanted to move Letang according to rumors
