Pittsburghish
Could have lived with it if it was only 2 years, Sink or Swim.

This feels too long, but at the same time, there was no way they were turning this team into an actual contender with the lack of assets and with those Granlund and Carter contracts hanging around their neck.
See, you’re starting to come around on the negative train.

Just a terrible, terrible decision. I’m in shock that Dubas just stapled the final years of this core to Jarry.

As soon as Andersen was off the board, along with Hill, I would’ve hoped we would’ve looked at the trade market.

All I can hope is that a coaching change and system change happens that insulates him. That’s a long shot but my only solace that this won’t be a massive L

what? you didn’t realize that Sullivan is also stapled to the core for their final years? Not happening lol…

Just gotta say, I love this deal. When you have a guy who is as consistent and durable as Jarry, who has been known to step up big when it matters, you really gotta pay whatever you gotta pay in order to lock him up.
I hope Dubas extends Sullivan for another 5yrs. He's been fantastic for this team.

60% Quality start percentage in his career. far from streaky. He made two all star games for a reason. He was playing really well and putting up real stellar numbers. I don't get why everyone here is pretending it didn't happen.
It’s not his ability, it’s his availability.

Someone on another forum who knows about goaltending was discussing Jarry’s stance affecting his hips and how he’ll have to change his goaltending style lol..

“Mentioned my son struggles with RVH. Panda is what we have seen Jarry do a little, but that limits his push off from cross crease. It could be snapping hip syndrome which he just needs some time off and some PT. I'm sure the Pens Dr's are all over it. He could go RVH with his skate on the post more often to put less stress on the hip. My son is still struggling with it, took 3 weeks off and hip hurts again after 1 goalie session. Says it feels like the hip is dislocating when in RVH. Look up RVH and you will understand why there is so much stress on the hips. I think technique is going to have to change, or these goalies hips are going to be shot. My son's Nuerosomatic Massage Therapist said strengthening hip muscles, IT band work and occasional rest is very important if he continues to go into RVH. My guess, Pens PT staff is working on strengthing and we will see a combo of Panda and RVH. Big goalies that can get away with Panda will be the workhorses. Smaller (6'3" and below) will be on a "pitch count" during the regular season. Goalie tandems will be very important.”

You'd think they signed a career .895 goalie with the reactions in here jesus. Man has been one of the better goalies in the NHL the past 5 years. He was getting 5mil somewhere. Just because he sucked for a playoff series doesnt mean hes terrible

Figure out what we're mad about

It's not jarry performance (mostly)

It's the fact the dude can't stay healthy, actively plays poorly through injury

For over $5mil a year, this dude better play well over .900 for 65 games

Check back next April to see what he did

Welcome back to the dark side, @Pens x .

We missed you during your brief hiatus.
Sorry, I’ll join the rest of you and bury my head in the sand, pretend Dubas did a good job because he wears big glasses. Analytics and stuff!

I know the off-season isn’t over, but damn, yesterday was disappointing. And I don’t want to hear that he did better than Hextall would have, because Hextall was awful at his job.

I’m still in shock thinking about this. Dubas was so desperate to make sure he was left with a chair when the music stopped that he felt this was the only option?

I have to wonder if he realizes he likely just shut the door on this core making any noise for their remaining days.

It’s possible if we go like 5-20 or something to start the year. I mean, we’d have to be so putrid that ownership is forced to act. It’s a horrible thing when it feels like the only way to change anything is through being awful. But that’s what I’m saying; the only way this isn’t a long term disaster is if, by some miracle, he goes and there is an upheaval in the team’s style.

Said it before, I'll say it again. We'll never win another playoff series as long as Mike Sullivan is the coach. Whatever. I only watched a handful of games last year. It'll be even less this year.

if the dark rumblings around the chronic nature of jarrys incessant injuries is true is it likely he’s not playing the final two years of this deal? what’s that mean then?

I mean yes, but this signing further seals the deal

It's probably best to never take this places stance on goaltenders to heart. They'd be flipping them like the hot cakes they'd be spitting out while they talk of them.

A good team can make an above average goaltender a Stanley Cup Champion. That should speak loud and clear that the Pittsburgh Penguins are not good outside of their best players, and even then, sometimes they were not so great either at times making the depth even more important.

Jarry has made mistakes like all goaltenders do, but his are far and fewer than the players in front of him whom only play 1/3ed of the game or less and make far more mistakes that lead to him being the last line of defense. It's not him calling to abandon the front of the net, pinch at bluelines or bad changes so often.

Maybe, maybe the Pens are just a bad team.

The playoffs, he's had 1 series to base off of. It's not his fault the team is a spineless perimeter team. He had one egregious mistake I would even call out. The rest are just par for the course of being a goaltender.

He's only been the starter for 3 years because, Him and Murray split time in 19/20, and Murray was the starter in the playoffs.

He hasn't had the playoff sample size to be this hell bent on him to this level. I get the frustrations, but this is a team full of issues considering they are far and away not a defensive first team like a NYI team is. It would probably been far worse had Jarry not played the puck at all and just stayed in his net.

The Pens thru 30+/40+ meaningless perimeter shots mostly at Sorokin while the Islanders were free and clear in front of our net. No defenders and at best 50/50.

I don't think the team even got better with all these signings. Some were just replacing what was lost, and all have them getting older and not younger.

Be more frustrated with that. The only getting younger signing is Graves, he's 28 to Dumo's 31/32 and Nedeljkovic who's 27.

Even if they land EK he's well over 30.

The average age of the forwards 31.2 / defense 30.7

Let's hope he stays healthy, otherwise we are screwed (if not already).
But now we have to get rid of DeSmith, I can't risk another season of Jarry/DeSmith, and since Jarry isn't going anywhere, DeSy has to go.

Lol, no dude. Jarry's not a winner, no matter how many words you try to justify it with. 3 rings wasn't bad for our trio but they deserved another.
