Also - yeah that isn't happening. Geno just likes to be courted and hasn't felt that way yet. He's getting the attention now and they'll figure something out. The lines designation don't really matter, 2nd line, third line fourth line who f***ing cares, you may want to pay a guy $3M who's gonna give you excellence in a role of $4C, and have a third wheel on the third line that is super complementary and you pay him $1M...The usage of line is blurred in the postseason, you play hot hands, find sudden chemistry, etc..., and giving Pens history of injuries, you can bring JC to 3rd or 2nd line for a dozen of games...

Colorado could do something like 1 year at 9M or something. But all teams willing to go 2-3 years are going to be in the exact same ballpark we are. I'm not going to discredit the sheer amount of teams willing to take a run at Geno as their 2C - but I have a really really tough time believing any of them are willing to go to the bank to do it. And what money difference would it take to uproot he and his family from their friends in Pittsburgh? They walking over 3M (1 extra per year)? Dude is worth over 9 figures.... So what would it be? 4.5 extra? 6 extra? Who the hell is offering that.

I think if you source it all - it's got to be something like we're offering 2 years and he wants 4 like some are saying. That with the whole point of meeting in the middle - or giving him 4 years with less money.

I don’t disagree with any of this. But he’s also not going to find any kind of replacement for Malkin for the cost, and Malkin’s also going to be a top driver of merchandise revenue for this team so it doesn’t really come down to whether or not Hextall cares about him.

And again, my contention isn’t in debating what management thinks about x or y player. It’s weird that we are building some narrative about how Malkin might be sensitive to what some fans may or may not think in 3 or 4 years. And
