Beauvillier was really good, too.

Also while I would agree that the Pens were really close on a few chances that didn't go in... well... so were the Isles.

Beauvillier was not really good. We shut down Barzal and Beauvillier really well.

The issue is. We likely won't continue to do that all series and if we do it is allowing Pageau which is arguably their best playoff center to run wild.

Eh I thought he played well but yeah obviously Pageau was the real problem, there. Which credit to you, I think... didn't you call that ahead of time?

Hoo boy watch out. Next thing you know he'll be able to take a few shifts before heading back to the locker room in a real game or something.

2.59, which means that Sorokin giving up either 2 or 3 goals was reasonable out of an average performance on the caliber of shots the Penguins had.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Where did you found the xGoals? I love those stats and would enjoy to check some stats, too.

We have to stay realsistic. Could we have won - no question about that. But did we really force the issue? That was not the case.

I'm shoked that 68% of the teams that lose game 1 lose the series.

On the other hand this doesn't say much. Lets pretend that the higher seated team is the better. So they will most likley win game one and will most likley win the series.

So it would have been interesting to see how many teams come back after beeing 0-1, starting on home ice.

I just checked the odds here and a german betting provider still sees us as the favorites.

The next game is a must win game IMO. As much as I love the team, I don't see them coming back from a 0-2 when the NYI even have the last change.

all i know is if we lose game 2 we are done like dinner.

Jarry made some huge saves in game 1, but let in so many stinkers. It was obvious that he had huge nerves in this game. Basically if he had time to think on the shot instead of just reacting he was much worse. That's typically nerves. His glove hand is *NOT* that bad in fact previously was a strength, though if I'm an islander every puck is on net next game, bad angle, at his feet but especially at his glove hand.

If Jarry can calm his nerves down and play like he is capable we should be ok. But I can't iterate this enough. The islanders put over 40 shots on net at us. When we are playing "the right way" we also suppress shots and dominate zone time. We simply didn't do that last game and that has to change. We have an incredibly deep forward group, we have have mobile defensemen. As a team, outside of the goalie, I expect a lot more out of us next game or just blow it up...

If the dude's glove is suddenly bad, he isn't handling the puck hardly at all and is literally shying away from stuff heading for his upper body in the head/shoulder region... I really think he must have some kind of injury. I'm not making excuses. I just think it seems obvious.

I hope Geno proves a lot of us wrong and comes back and kills it, because man... It feels like they're going to Weekend at Bernie's the guy out there, he's gonna be a detriment because of a knee injury that was never handled right, and then he'll be trotted to the gallows again this summer as the scapegoat while he recovers from inevitable surgery.

Not too surprised about Dumo. He caught a clear slapshot right on the ankle.

No Malkin. No Dumoulin. This team man.

Meanwhile Kucherov misses like an entire year and comes back to have a monster game first one back and we're over here hoping Malkin can like... slip the puck to Kap and mostly stay out of the way after sitting out like 2 months. f***, man.

Is he out for good?

Kinda figured once he took his skate off that foot that it wasnt going to go on again... RS game he'd probably have left after he took that blast.

This team is ridiculous. At full health to end the season, 3 important players down already.
We were never at full health though. Geno's been banged up for months, and we only really know the full extent now. Jarry and DeSmith have been banged up down the stretch. I'm sure Tanev's shoulder's still f***ed up like it's been pretty much half the year.

This team's never at full health, and as time marches on, it'll only get worse imo. Because we can't reduce the TOI/role of the aging core like guys their age usually need in order to stay at their most effective.

They do that to the guy every single year they don't win a Cup anyway so whatever.

It's a shame.

Do I think Jarry is better than what he showed, yes. Even one step forward or one save better wins us that game. While it sucks to lose one at home where we are so good, I do expect us to get better. We've been down 1-0 is plenty of series before. This is still winnable assuming Jarry does not get worse.

Jarry also looked nervous as f***. This was his first time as the legit starter for the Stanley cup playoffs. This team could have given him a little more insulation or done more. They still allowed what 42 shots. When they won with Murray in 16' he faced like 20 shots a games.

I am not defending Jarry but the team could have showed up more still. He got his first game out of the way, so lets see how he responds. (I dont count Montreal game last year) He played loose then without the pressure of being the starter and looked so much better.

Sullivan trotting out the same tired lines...

Who cares if sully wins regular season games with scrubs if he cant make adjustments to win playoff games. Honestly its insane. You need to get McCann, Rust and Zucker to show up somehow or this will be over quick.

Yeah seriously. Someone mentioned it yesterday but it seems like all Sully cares about is getting Sid and Bart out there. Sid was great yesterday but why did his line play 25 mins and GOAT get 12? Rust led the forwards with 26 mins and he was mostly dog shit.

It's all good. He'll change up lines... when they are one game away from elimination.

It's almost like you should spend time during the regular season trying things (that aren't forced upon you by injury) so you have more than one plan re: lineups and have a better read on players and how they interact with others.
