What do non-pens fans think of this, I mean it looks like it follows them around. Isles/Pens brawl night, Rinaldo fight night not too long ago, now against the pens getting blown out I saw Downie throw borderline hits and start a fight, Ovechkin take a hit from Erhoff cleanly with brawl started, Letang throw 2 hard hits and another scrum started. Maybe the pens are just chippy first off and worse/more chippy in blow outs? They do lead the league in pim/gm as a team.

So what do neutral fans think, do the Pens get their hands dirty when they are getting blown out? (Not that it happens that much, but still) What do you guys think?

I think they are chippy/gritty team already that crosses the line when getting blown out occasionally.

EDIT: Thought I would add this information to the debate since I hadn't read the article before today with a comment below it:

I know Downie/Lapierre haven't been suspended in a Pens uniform yet although we know their history, but over the past few years Neal/Cooke/Asham/Engelland/Kunitz/Letang/Bortuzzo/Adams all have been suspended by the league wearing gold and black(that goes without talking about Malkin's revoked late instigator suspension that never happened). Kind of says it's not just in people's heads. Any other team currently icing 6 players with prior suspensions under their belts?

Clearly the Pens are the only team to get scrappy when they're getting blown out. There's never been any other incident where teams started to get aggressive late in a blow out. There has never been a blowout which resulted in a major blackeye on the league and a major courtcase featuring a star player.

Yea, it's pretty obvious that the Pens lose their composure when encountered with any kind of adversity.

Pittsburgh was not getting blown out against Philly, that game got chippy because Rinaldo made a dirty hit.

And the Islanders brawl was 4 years ago...

Also, what team doesn't get chippy when they are getting blown out? It seems like you are picking on the Penguins for something almost every team does.

Scrums aren't dirty so unless they're throwing dirty punches in those scrums I don't see why standing up for teammates or getting chippy is a bad thing. Every team does that.

Because no other team has EVER started scrums after they were getting blown out. :sarcasm:

Pens get chippy and they get called goons, every other team does it and nobody thinks twice. So many people ******** over this team every year.

There was no "gooning it up" ... a scrum after a hit where a player appeared to be injured. Happens all the time. But only because it was a pens game.

Never change main board.

Getting chippy is one thing... throwing punches at a guy who's down is another. No one's saying the other teams don't do this, Pens just do it more often than any other team.

If I had to choose one word to describe the Penguins, "entitled" is what I would choose.

What do you call throwing punches when a guy is down?

This. I remember that flyers pens series a few years back. Embarrassing stuff.

Lapierre was such a perfect fit for the Pens. Match made in heaven.

Actually they don't. Do pens fans even watch other teams? There is no doubt that they are one of, if not, the dirtiest/chirpiest teams in the league.

You have statistical proof of this?

As a Caps fan, I don't think that the Pens goon it up when they lose, but they become just like a bunch of angry wasps. If you get too close to them, they'll attack.

They become frustrated too easily.

I'm sure you have data to back up your peer reviewed study ...
