Man, watching Washington ... the Pens could have done this kind of rebuild if we got rid of Sully and had a competent GM.

It helps the Caps that Backstrom and Oshie are out as well? It would be like if the Pens did not have Malkin and Letang but younger stars instead! But the direction the teams has gone in is brutal! The Caps have made a lot of smart signings and trades.

Pixies/Gurgle's takes were right about Washington. They engineered being competitive again. Man is Chychrun awesome there, too.

Not a hockey expert, but being minus 40 in goal differential seems bad..... Sadly they are winning just enough to end up outside of the lottery. I think all 3 PGH teams are being run by the same evil corporation that has figured out the perfect formula to maximize profits.

Just a reminder that Washington never bottomed out, either. They had one bad year where they ended up picking 8th.
Instead, they're doing a variation of what the Pens are doing. Clear some cap space, acquire some draft picks and young players, develop your existing prospects, start integrating them into the lineup, and then spend in free agency/trades.
