Meanwhile, this beauty is just sitting at home and available for free.

Oh, that made it worth it
Absolutely, and you know why that is, yes? Because this team isn't going anywhere anyhow. So why not accrue such assets. Context is important.

If however you're holding out hope that this team will make noise in the post season you're gonna be sorely disappointed!

Literally no one is serious about kessel
Serious enough that you're complaining about getting Hayes and a 2hd and 3rd round pick on a team going nowhere. What should they do, sell off 1st rounders for another run?

Accruing picks and prospects is exactly what this team should be doing considering the age of the core and where we are in the scheme of things.

Sullivan is so stupid…Glass has been a total failure on L2 and so has DOC….Tomasino got like 5 games there…give him a little more time, patience…lol

The problem with all of these players (Glass, Tomasino, DOC) is that they all suck.

None of them are top 6 material.

This team has three guys who are passable scoring line wingers (Rakell, Rust, and to a lesser extent Bunting).

If they are serious about the playoffs, they need to add a fourth top 6 winger.

That's the fun part, they aren't.

The team's operation has been crystal clear since the deadline last year: acquire assets and sell off players while trying to keep the team around Crosby and Malkin at least moderately competitive, with priority in that order.

Zucker did at least have energy when we had him last

The offense wasn't quite there, but he had "heart"
shockingly, I think people misunderstood the point of my question.

I'm not interested in being a buyer. I'd prefer to continue to sell and just tank. But if we're in or near a playoff position in a month (like if we're within 3 points a month from now), I do not see a way this organization doesn't do something for the core who stayed.

Last year, when they traded Guentzel, it came under two different conditions that aren't currently present with this roster: 1) Dubas told his camp negotiate now or get traded and 2) it came a week after Dubas said, "if you want me to be a buyer, win, if you want me to sell, lose" and the team went winless (or something similar). If we're still in it and not absolutely sucking shit, I think they'll try to keep the vets happy. Rather than waste real assets on real players, wasting a 3rd or 4th on Zucker, to me, seems more-palatable. And even then, I still hope they sell MP.

But I'm not sitting here going "ALL-IN!" or being entirely-enthused about our post season prospects. But if we HAVE to go shopping, where are we comfortable shopping at? That's all I was asking.

True

It is hard to say... We have like less than 2mil in cap by TDL *edit, puckpedia says it's more like 6.5mil, we could add... But might have to be more desirable picks*

So it'll have to be a bit of a hockey trade. Not easy when most anything worth trading, we likely need to make that push anyway.

Might depend on who is injured by that point...

To me, it feels likre they're backed into a hell of a corner with no clear options to actually improve team/compete in short term without some dudes catching absolute fire

Should be much younger legs if they’re going “shopping” than 33 year old Zucker…I prefer bringing some kids up or trying to trade a 3rd or 4th for another Tomasino like player who needs a change of scenery

I think we are all for that, but it's really finding a needle in a haystack to get someone who can help immediately for a 5th or worse, cause if we're deluding ourselves that we're trying to increase draft capital, then... Trading 3rds might as well be 1sts again lol

I mean, tomasino cooled already and getting cut usage.. Not that HE'S the problem.... We know the problem
