Accicari at 2 mil is not worse than Saad at 4.5 mil relative to the needs to this team. A 2 mil cap ht for a year and a half is not that big of a deal on a team going nowhere. And no way are we trading a 3rd to do so, that's just poor asset management. Not gonna happen.

Saad did just score 26 goals last year which would've put him 4th on the team. He has a whole lot more value than Noel.
But there's zero chance Dubas trades for him unless there's heavy retention.

Not at double the cap hit he doesn't. Cap space is something on a team such as ours that is very important. We could take on salary for a lesser at the deadline and get a 2hd rounder. Heck, 2.5 mil in cap space is worth a 2hd by itself, when it's prorated maybe an additional pick.

Rust for Rossi would be such an instant and quick yes from me that I can't fathom a single way the Wild even consider it.

Sure his production is getting inflated by playing with Kaprizov, but he has 25 points in 30 games and just turned 23. Guerin should be fired if he'd trade him for Rust.

And yes, for me size does matter. As far as the majority of the lineup goes. As far as any chance of a playoff chances go. He's not going to get the same liberties here as he's getting in Mini.

To go from a Crosby/Malkin to a Rossi goes? Yes. Size matters.

I mean, there would have to be a decent plus going to Minny as well. I just don't know what picks or prospects would best even it out.

But adding him would be the ideal "next step" in our early rebuild. We absolutely need a top 6 transitionary center. Malkin has this year and next, then we have a major gap if we don't add. If we add now, you can put together a good roster next year:

I don't think Minnesota would do Rust for Rossi. I think they'd be interested in Rust, but Rossi wouldn't be available. The Wild likely need to add at center, as the Eriksson Ek injury has made clear, not lose one of their best ones.

That said, I'm not sure what Rust's value is. I think it's absolutely higher than what some on this board believe it is. Barring injury, he'll have his sixth straight season with 20+ goals. He already has 12. He had 28 in just 62 games last year. He's shown an ability to play with high-end players, and anyone acquiring him would want him in that role. The Wild, for example, would play him on the opposite wing of either Kaprizov or Boldy, with a healthy Zuccarello as the fourth winger in the top six.

I think Rust for Rossi is the right kind of deal the Pens should look for, but I don't think the deal with the Wild is actually realistic. What will make it tricky is there will be some teams who value Rust so highly that you'll be able to get them to add to the Rossi-type return. And there are other teams who won't value him as highly and you'd potentially need to add to get a Rossi-type return.

If you retain 50% on Rust with his deal I think the highest you are getting back is a 2nd.

We're not gonna be retaining on Rust for this season plus three more for a 2hd rounder. On MP who's on an expiring contract sure, but not something like Rusts.

Agreed. So you are probably looking at Dubas moving his contract to either get younger, less cap hit or less term this summer.
