Jiricek is a really good talent and most certainly he will help whatever team gets him eventually but is he truly a need here? I feel like anything we give up, we instantly have that hole to fill. If you give up McGroarty, you are instantly looking for a young, top line wing/forward. I would interested in Pickering+ but I doubt CBJ are. I wouldn't give up the 1st this year either.

In my eyes, I would really only support a trade that's likely McGroarty+ IF:
1. Taking him means we've captured a top dman trade target and we think that will up the value of Pettersson.
2. Being that he's a RHD, we start making a legitimate plan to move Karlsson in which we look for a forward prospect in return.
3. We keep the 1st this year and next and we commit to best forward available, with one having to be a center. Which also means there is a commitment to the gutter next year as well. Which ALSO means we look to send out a few more players.

McGroarty+Ponomarov+2024 3rd for Jiricek
Pettersson@50% + DOC to VAN for Petterson, Hoglander
Acciari out for a 4th
Beauvillier out for a 4th
Karlsson@50% to OTT for Zub+2024 3rd
Zub to Edmonton for Lavoie+2025 2nd
Use 2024 1st on Misa
Use 2025 1st on McKenna

Hoglander-Crosby-Rust
Rakell-McKenna-Misa

Pettersson-Jiricek
Pickering-Brunicke
Graves-Letang

Blomy

Something like that.

Rather have a 1st than Petterson for Pettersson + DOC.

Lavoie is someone I have no interest in.

Can't see us getting the lottery pick in 2025.

It's a shame on Puustinen, he looked like a potential legit 3rd line piece last year, but he was horrendous in the pre-season and continued to suck in the regular season. With the Tomasino addition it sealed Puustinen's fate, but you can't exactly argue that him ending up on waivers is not justified.

Just hope they start waiving more of the dogshit they have in the bottom-6 to give actual young guys a chance.

I think I ultimately wouldn't do Blomqvist but I would do Murashov. At the same time, I also think Murashov has insane upside and he can easily end up the better goalie.

It's a legitimate offer that the Penguins do have the depth to make. It would just be painful to make, which is what trading for a prospect of Jiricek's ability should be costing.
I am open to giving either of the goalie prospects for Jiricek. If he's available and we looking for a high end prospect swap I do think let's trade one of the two high end goalie prospects we have.

Wonder if Toronto will claim Puustinen considering how battered their forward group is. Outside of a situation like that, I'd be surprised if Puustinen is claimed.

Yep teams with a hole needing to fill why not claim a guy and pay 30k.

In a vacuum, he's right. Puustinen goes invisible. So did Poulin.

The argument, of course, is that Sullivan's measure of "impact" is highly questionable at this point. Harkins made an impact? Is Nieto really making an impact? I think Nieto, in particular, is better defensively and a better forechecker than Puustinen or Poulin. But does that outweigh his lack of offense? Is it worth keeping instead of letting someone like Poulin play 20 games to truly get a sense of where he is?

I think both are true that Puustinen stunk and played himself onto waivers while also there are other shitty bottom-6 players that need to be waived or traded as well.

None of Acciari, Nieto, Puustinen, Hayes, Beauvillier or O'Connor should be here after the deadline. Lizotte and Puljujarvi are their only bottom-6 guys I want them to keep right now, fill the rest with youth and better players.

I'd keep O'Connor, just because he can play all over the lineup, which could be helpful as you slot in younger guys. I really don't think there is going to be much of a market for him at the deadline. Keep him, throw him a 2-year deal in free agency at $1.25 million per year or something, and if you need to you can flip him next year.

Poulin is one of the only penguins this year with a + rating. Lizotte is the other.

Nieto is a -2 with no points
Hayes is a -8
Accairi is a -9

I would rather a player be invisible in the bottom 6 than be a reason why they lose games. Your 4th line can't collectively be a -19

Poulin is a young player who needs time and a couch who shows faith in them.

No O'Connor is a waste to keep, trade him for anyone that would pay a 3rd or 4th for him. He's been far too frustrating and inconsistent for me to want to keep around.

I think even Lizotte is largely whatever even though he's done fine enough and on a palatable deal. Hayes is a replacement level player, too. But he's never coming out of the lineup since he was their big splash deal of this past offseason to help single handedly rebuild their prospect pool.

But yeah... largely agree. I wanted to see Puus and Poulin work out and I would have personally waived some of this other trash before them but I also can't say with a straight face that they were f***ed over or anything. Should they have been handled better and given more opportunities that would have been better suited to their talents? Sure. Am I afraid they would be losing a ton with those two going elsewhere? Nah.

Nieto doesn't do anything. He's such a nothing player.

Puustinen has been pretty bad this year though.

Yeah Lizotte is whatever but I like him enough to justify keeping him around. He's not anything special but he's not a guy I actively want gone. Ideally he's a 4th line LW that can use his speed on the forecheck.

I'd actually really like a 4th line of Lizotte-Ponomarev-Puljujarvi if they actually ran with that. It fits the defense that Sullivan wants out of the 4th line, is decently young and decently fast and can offer some secondary production (mostly from Lizotte and Puljujarvi). I feel like that's a 4th line you can play 12 minutes a night and have it be a positive for you.

Really is funny how much Bunting has speed run getting himself demoted out of the bottom six this year.

This is called "being a bad coach".

Bunting has been producing a bit better recently, think he's at something like 6 points in his last 10 games. That said, he was so bad to start the year that he'll need a long stretch of that production or better to get back on track.
