So wait, Bunting is extremely overrated, and that small sample size last spring was a fluke?

Florida
Bunting is a guy that Colorado, Edmonton, New York, and Florida would love to have.

He's a guy that would have been great when we had good teams (16/17) as that role player who pops up every 4-5 games.

His problem in 2024 is that he's supposed to be like, one of our best forwards. That's more indicative of our team than anything else. He makes the same money Hagelin did while here...and Hagelin was only ever a role player was he not? (Consider cap %)

So, if we're going to suck - perhaps we use him as bait alongside Jarry to dispose of them? Maybe try and get a LD in return? I'm not ready to give up on him...it's just that this team is still going nowhere without the top-6 talent for Sid and someone else on the left side. So...if we're staying put, why the hell would we keep the likes of Bunting? He can be dealt, so deal him. Same thing with Pettersson...though moreso in Petts case. I'm gonna puke when they re-sign him.

For 1/2 of his cap hit. That's why he was a cap dump in the Jake trade and why we'd have to retain to get positive value on him. Its a crappy contract for a depth forward.

Dubas is just stupid enough and loves the player enough to let the Canes off the hook on him.

The team has so few valuable assets. You simply cant ditch a player like Jake for a cap dump and a bunch of nobodies.

To add to the Bunting issue, he's most effective when he's playing like a dirty rat.

We all know Sully would not have that on his team. Dubas should have known that.
This was literally what I said I was worried about the second the trade was made. I was fine with Bunting and even liked the player, but I also wondered whether he'd even be allowed to play his game under Sullivan.

Imagine that. Sullivan turning a guy who plays with bite into yet another vanilla forward. Who could have predicted that?

'Tis better to lose with a clean roster than to win with a greasy one.

I get the argument that Dubas should have demanded a $20 scratch-off instead of 4 $5 ones, but we were always going to have to take salary back as part of the trade.

Maybe he is being neutered by the coaching staff, maybe he was just a PPP collector. Either way he is still only 27 with 2 60 point seasons under his belt, which is better than most cap dumps in big trades. I really hope he just needs a kick in the ass and its not the coaching staff trying to get him to play the right way, because it was obvious last year the team was missing his type.

I think Jake refusing to talk extension with anybody in-season ratf***ed his value but I'm still bewildered that Dubas couldn't secure a 1st rounder in the deal one way or another. I think there was a rumored Rangers deal that either had Kakko or Othmann and a 1st--no idea if that was true. Think I would've taken that over a few of Carolina's like 5th-7th best prospects.

Still weird he didn't retain on the last couple of months of Jake's $6M too. Probably could've had more teams interested.

There was 25% retention to make the money even.
Oh shit, my bad. You're right. Good call.

I guess I was annoyed that the team didn't seem to want to retain the full 50%, because that would've opened up more avenues of discussion. But I'm probably just coping and this team was intent on some bullshit roster player like Bunting + scraps one way or another.

It won’t happen and in fact we might prefer to lose but Quenneville would be able to right this ship I think.

That dipshit Flapjacks going hard after Puustinen like he played 20mins on the top line or some shit. What a weird f***ing thing to focus on in a game where there's like 50 things more egregious.

Yeah f*** that. I'm out if he's hired. Not that anyone would care obviously, but to hire someone that knew of the assault, did nothing and then acted like he didn't know and still got caught in his lie, f*** him.

The fact that Dubas retained tells me the deals he was getting was trash and with retention the Canes were the only ones willing to pay up as much as they did. I'm sure some may have asked for more retention but that is likely something he would get vetoed by some above him I'm guessing.
