We’re 5th from the bottom in terms of points % which is a better indicator than actual points because of games played.

It is true that WC2 is only .500 right now. A freak thing is happening. The bar won't stay this low after 82 games though. It never does.
Someone's gonna pick it up. Probably Boston. Maybe the Isles.
 
So speaking of Pettersson to the Oilers, and somebody mentioned Matt Nieto recently, does anybody else remember that on July 1, 2023, when the Free Agent Frenzy started, one of the first deals announced by TSN was Matt Nieto signing with the Oilers. Then a few short minutes later, Gord Miller announced that he was actually going to Pittsburgh, not Edmonton. I remember feeling sadness shortly thereafter. I wonder if the Oilers would still be interested? Or was that a Ken Holland thing?

I wonder what happened there. Probably Sullivan contacted Dubas and demanded we sign Nieto. Would not surprise me in the least.

Anyway, I would love Matt Savoie in a Pettersson deal. What about Savoie and Nurse for Pettersson and Jarry? Any takers?

Is one of EK/Letang getting moved in another deal? Im an agent of chaos, but even I have to draw the line at a potential EK/Letang-Nurse pairing. Nurse having 5 years left vs Jarry's 3 is another negative, even if retention is involved.

Savoie wouldnt be my first choice at a return, but maybe EDM needs an extra 3rd pick 3 drafts from now....Savoie/1st for Petts retained/3rd? Just looked, EDM traded their 2025 1st to get a 1st in last year's draft..

Nieto would make a lot of sense in Edmonton. They're 30th on the PK. 19th at GA/G. He's strong at GA suppression.
I don't think someone who defends at a high level for 900k is the worst thing in the world, as long as you will score enough in the end.
In our position we can't really afford to have offensive ghosts in the bottom-six, that's all.

I might do Nurse for Graves and Jarry but not Pettersson. Just get a 1st or a 2nd and quality prospect and be done with it.

With Edmonton though, I'd be okay with something like 1st + 4th for Pettersson @75% + Nieto.

I always assumed MP would get a 2nd round pick as the main value in a deal with him. He's not getting a first unless someone is desperate enough to want to acquire him now instead of at the TDL.

I think it's pretty realistic for a guy like Petts to get a late 1st at the TDL. He's cheap enough cap-wise, especially with retention, to be an option for a lot of teams. The real issue is that he's been struggling pretty badly this season, and most contending teams seem comfortable at LD. Maybe somebody on another team gets hurt and Dubas can make a deal.

Agreed. But what will be even sweeter is these dumb f*** fans who just read analytic cards and act like MP28 much like Marino is this absolute stud D that PIT fans don’t realize is great.
 
I wonder if Karlsson would be good as a LW/RW instead, seeing as he never wants to play defense.

Not if Provorov continues to play well, and Pettersson continues to struggle. Rentals are attractive to playoff contenders when they are playing well. The notion that "everybody knows what you are getting" matters less than how you are playing at the time of the trade.

Pettersson has been nowhere near as good this season as last, which should not come as a surprise considering the shit show we are watching with our own eyes right now.
