stings to lose that one, ugh. Really exciting game though.

Why are some people so ready to shift blame from goalie to defense? At what point is the goalie at fault?

I believe for some of the goals, Vokoun is completely at fault. He stops those softies and the pens win this easy.

I thought Vokoun was swimming too much myself. I mean he's def a Fleury like goalie who can scare you with his movements, but he didn't seem to be settled. I don't blame him for all the goals, that defense was awful and Orpik looked so ugh, but he def wasn't himself.

How can anyone gameplan for goalies completely losing their ****?

Hire special goalie therapists?

What always gets lost in these games is how **** OR well (depending on how you look at it) the Flyers played.

Here's my question that I always ask when people lose their **** about the defense and giving up OMG ENDLESS SCORING CHANCES!!!

How many big saves did Vokoun make?

I hate this "It's the match up" crap. It's just an excuse for playing horrible hockey. I would take a 1-0 win over that game any day. We can't play defense & if we get booted after the first round good bye Bylsma.

Heart breaking for you guys but I wouldn't read into it aside from Vokouns weak GWG and Bylsmas decision not to pull him. Flyers had two goals off Pens and a weak game winner. I know you create good luck but the point is this was the oddest game I've seen in a long time.
Almost the oddest since the last Flyers/Pens game. Appreciate the non-trolling though, enjoy the win.

I know your point and you aren't wrong, but being completely undisciplined is the #1 factor as to why we lost this game, with goaltending coming closely in 2nd.

We were flying coming out of the gate. Then the Flyers start their antics and completely take us out of our game. Same script, different game. Then the rest of the time the team plays pissed off and players try to do everything on their own, or go out of their way to make a big hit, or forget to get back on defense. This stuff isn't new.

The goaltending could clearly be 100% better, but the main problem would still be there.

The Flyers were scrambling too, which is why we came back. We make crazy hockey together. The Flyers have just found a way to come out on top more often than not.

Tonight, goaltending was the difference.

We saw this game roughly 11 times in 11-12.

maybe we need some veteran presence that will calm the team down like Iginla, I sometimes get the feeling that crosby/malkin get their emotions too rattled up at times

How has it been working so far?

There is no way they can pretend that they have the ability to NOT play down to their level. Pens are just worse at it. Just initiate it next time and take a friggin stand.

They are getting run over out there by the Flyers, just like in the playoffs.

You know exactly what was said in that first time out. It is a game plan, and it works.

How's it been working so far?

I don't know because they haven't actually tried it.

I watch nearly every game on the internet. I had a great feed and lost it right after they disallowed Kunitz's goal. I couldn't get another feed, so I read here that Sutter tied it up. I finally get my feed back as they pull Vokoun for the extra skater. Chalk me up as confused.

Two of these goals were clearly Vokoun's fault. Two goals were scored while we had the puck covered and no whistle. Goal #1 and I think it was #4. Anyway the second one was worse because Vokoun was literally sitting on the puck. The puck was under his legs for a second or two, no whistle, the Flyers stab at him with their sticks, the puck pops out, and goal.

I didn't hear anyone, not the broadcast crew, not anyone here, nobody, mentioning the fact that Vokoun made the save and froze it with no whistle. l

Lots of garbage going on that wouldn't have been tolerated when Roberts was here and I'm not saying that to be funny or nostalgic or whatever.

Well this was a playoff style game. More so than any other game this season with the intensity, reffing, physicality, and atmosphere.

True , but this isn't post deadline. Big difference. Big move is happening, like I've said. These types of games do not go unnoticed.

I honestly don't think we can use this game as a measuring stick for our chances in the East. No other team makes the Pens so out of character than the Flyers. It's problem, yes, but nothing we need to blow anything up over. We just need a better gameplan for the Flyers. Lets just hope we avoid them in the Playoffs.

I agree with this 100% we gotta root like hard for the flyers to miss the playoffs. I actually think the pens need to speak to a sports psychiatrist before they play flyers again. Mainly Malkin and Neal maybe that can help them control their emotions

And I'm telling you that we would come out on top if we didn't run around like chickens with our heads cut off.

Don't look now...but TK was a +3...

Due in large part to the other guys on his line making things happen. After his goal (which was nice and plenty overdue), he went right back to chest-sniping. Kennedy sucks. He's not even smart enough to figure out that if he shoots the puck LOW and hard... the goalie might give up this thing called a rebound. Instead it's always lift the puck right into the goalie's torso. The sooner he's gone and his $2M is freed up the better. I actually hope he scores a little more so some team values him in a trade.

How could Bylsma not pull Vokoun?

He's should've been pulled after teh second flailing goal. He was out of position and out of sorts all night. Orpik didn't help his cause any either.

Ya know what REALLY chaps my ass? Look at the goals that were scored by the Flyers.

4 of 6 were absolute garbage goals. I mean complete garbage, gangle **** goals. We put up 5 legit goals and got 2 called back.

I said it last year too . . . you just need to look for the signs. :p:

EDIT: I know, it's all the goaltending.

It's clearly not all goaltending. I've acknowledged that much - we played cute, undisciplined, hockey. It was aggravating.

But goaltending was the difference tonight.

because he's a really ****** coach. i'm not convinced that he had an ounce of control this season, including this game. i think the Pens got by in this one on adrenaline from the rivalry alone. Bylsma is horrifyingly bad this year, almost as bad as Vokoun was tonight.

For the life of me-- and I know this is a little item in the scheme of things-- I really have no clue why the third and fourth lines end up taking so many offensive zone left dot draws. I know it's nitpicking, but getting that kind of position to start is an advantage. Exploit it. It doesn't mean you'll score. But, in theory, at least it enhances the chance that you'll score.

How's it been working so far?

I don't know because they haven't actually tried it.

My point is that it does not look like an option. Any game we get into with these guys is going to be a gong show now. They know the MO.

I'm just frustrated and mad. You are probably right.

I would certainly hope not. I don't know that a trade is the answer though for undisciplined play. It would certainly shake up the locker room, but there needs to be accountability for these team killing mistakes (penalties and otherwise).
