Welcome to Pittsburgh! Hopefully this career path ends on a brighter note.

Preeeeetty sure this team's not going for a quick retool on the fly if they're hiring the development coach. Which I'm more than fine with. Gimme that teardown baybeeeee.
Not exactly. More like Dubas is ushering in an era of constant development. He's building a hockey development machine that will always be drafting and acquiring young talent to continue plugging into the big club, during and beyond Sid's tenure. Sell the vets when they're about to turn sour for picks, and use those picks (as well as your own) on young players, not rentals or guys over 30. I like it.

That's what I was thinking. Who is he supposed to develop exactly? There's Koivunen, McGroarty, and Pickering. Beyond that, there's guys who look like they're probably busts in Ponomarev and Poulin, and then younger guys and this year's firsts which are all years away from really getting consistent mentorship from him.

Have to think they're going all-in for Howard after this tho...
Expecting, hoping, praying Dubas is really active this offseason turning vets and acquired picks into young players that hit the NHL within 12 months.

I have incredibly low expectations for the team from here on out so IMO - good. I like this. I have no clue who he is. But Im guessing we will see a different team.

I will say - the older guys on the team are not good with no name coaches
You just wish ZAR retired and coached this team instead.

I'll be willing to be told otherwise but I still feel like the no name coach thing may be overblown. I'm obviously not in the locker room but I mean, no one knew what the hell a Dan Bylsma was until the end of 2009. The Mike Johnston blowback likely had more to do with a shitty approach to playstyle and systems than how fancy his resume was.

Dubas wants a develop type coach who brings that element to the franchise. No coach is making any difference enough to win anything. But get the prospects playing and improving is the goal here. All the core will be gone one way or another in 2 years. transfusion for the franchise is the priority.
