I dunno about anyone else but I am a Pens fan that wants cups, it's always about the cups even when you rebuild...the goal is to make a team to get the cups. It's the end game! I don't care about feel good stories, I care about the results on the ice. This sport is about entertainment, I want my fill.

He said the penguins play a good game and it should be entertaining for the lowly fans that think it isn't entertaining.

hahaha... entertaining hockey... mmmmhmmmm

I assume they are angry that he is interfering with their God given right to spend more than the Yankees and Dodgers.

I honestly can't name one active MLB player, but even I knew about the Red Sox curse from Babe Ruth and how generations of fans never got to see them win a World Series.

So again, just seems weird to be mad if this group broke that curse to the tune of a few championships.

If the owner's wife is bitchy, what do I care? Like she is moving to Pgh anyway or will have any effect on my life.

There are a lot of asshole billionaires out there who treat people like shit, but I don't exactly rub elbows with them, so uh...

A big part of me hopes the new owners have no reservations about a full fire sale so we can just begin anew and get started on the inevitably awful, lengthy rebuild. I'm already tired of watching the slow, steady descent as this team has become stale and mediocre at best. Forest needs a fire for new growth, or whatever. Part of me realizes they probably don't want to hop into ownership and kick things off by torching the roster and angering a buncha yinzers who think this team can still do anything with this core/supporting cast, so it's gonna be more of the same dookie we've seen the past few years.

I think we'll see a gradual restructuring rather than a tear down. My prediction:

1) One or both of Rust/Guentzel are moved out over the next 12 months

2) Malkin/Letang are re-signed each to 3-4 year deals

3) Hextall signs or trades for a veteran goalie, but does not use the first round pick to do so

4) Sullivan does not get fired. They stick with him for years to come.

5) In general, Hextall starts to keep our picks, and tries to acquire more picks. He does not move first round picks at all in the next 5 years.

You can quote me when all of this is wrong months from now. But these are my gut feelings.

1. Rust walks, Guentzel continues to have a solid RS with regard to PPG/On Pace™ but sucks in the playoffs so he sticks around to tank his value as an asset some more.

2. Yep. $8 million AAV/3yr and $9 million AAV/4yr respectively.

3. Seems like a safe bet. Won't change much though, imo.

4. Yep. Much rejoicing.

5. Hopefully.

I think you're right.

I think they might dump Matheson and/or Marino, too. It might be for negligible return in Matheson's case, likely to a team closer to the salary floor that can eat his salary more comfortably and doesn't have to worry about contending for a year or two.

Marino might be a classic hockey trade just for a different look/style on the right side.

Sullivan for years to come? I don't think so. I am a Sully fan and think he is a great coach (despite his warts) but it's not just the team that needs the change, it's Sully that needs it to. It would be really good for his coaching career to take on a new challenge (he I think knows that) and I also think he will be successful elsewhere.

We're not the Rooney's. If we were Bylsma would still be here.

Ho idea if and when the team is sold how the new owners will change the dynamics. I do think they will be more strategic in building the team as to future growth and still using the cap space to add what ultimately Hextall if he is still here wants. Rust walks as his age and expected term just are not in the Pens range. A lot may depend on where things stand up to the TDL. Sid will never be moved under Mario and Burkle but not 100% sure Sid may be open to a move to a real contender ala the AVs. I think the key is what is the goal and or plan for the future and does it include Malkin at say 8 to 9 million AAV. Maybe not and use the cap space for adding what they see as improving assets.

If/when the sale is finalized, how long does it typically take for full ownership to change hands to the new owners? Recent example I can think of was the Islanders being sold by Charles Wang to their new group, including the other Malkin and Ledecky. I think Wang maintained majority ownership the next season, then minority owner after two years, before being fully out by year three.

has to be approved by the Board of Governors but that’s a formality. It sounds like they’ll change hands in-season

please do tell, what available option was there to get? And protecting Blueger over who? Tanev was a bad contract long term. I liked his play, but he was always hurt. JR overpaid on that one. JR also made the bad deals for Kapanen & Zucker.
I would have protected McCann over Blueger. Halak is better than both goalies, and dirt cheap. I’d trust Halak in the playoffs over Jarry.

Even if he did that, you'd still be sitting here complaining.
False. If hextall makes prudent moves, I’ll compliment him, like the Carter trade. You are crazy if you think I would be upset if he upgraded DeSmith.

John Henry, billionaire behind Fenway Sports Group, turns teams he owns into champions

“I think he sees a growth opportunity. In five years, let’s see what the valuation is of the Penguins. I guarantee you it will be up by 25-30%, based on something that he does. Looking at his history, he doesn’t come in and say, ‘Plug and play.’ He comes in and starts doing his assessments and trying to figure out what hasn’t been tapped.”

They know what they want. They’re good at it. They have a lot of money. When they come in, the teams become more competitive. They devote resources to all of their teams.”

“One thing about this group is they’re going to want to win,” Matt Clement, a Butler native who pitched for the Marlins in 2001 and the Red Sox in 2005-06, told The Fan Morning Show in a guest appearance Wednesday. “That’s the most important piece for the City of Pittsburgh, is they love their teams winning. It might not be different because the Penguins franchise has had a level of success that they want to attain already and have a standard that they won. But it’s not going to change. It’s not going to get worse. It’s either going to stay the same or get better.”

We honestly couldn't have asked for better imo. Looking at this organization from 1967, look how far we've come.

Ya, maybe we end up hating them like Pirate fans hate their owner guy who has a name I can’t recall…

But at least this all seems like it could be worse.

I don't post or follow the Pirates board but why is there a rule against mentioning the owner? Guess it was that bad?
