Only because they know they'd have a revolt if they went full Tampa.

There is an internal cap on the Red Sox payroll and they routinely let top FA walk or trade young talent before their big pay day.

Case in point, they traded away 25 year old MVP Mookie Betts because of his salary.

Lemieux has been looking to sell almost since he bought the team.

He only bought the team because he didn’t want to lose the millions he was owed in bankruptcy court.

He wanted to save the team and all, but it was always about recouping what he was owed.

Just smart business on his end, but he was never in this for the long haul.

Things changed when they got Crosby, so he just rode the money train and now it’s time to get off.
