Speculation: Penguins off day talk thread: Yes, Sully is still the coach

So Sullivan is really here for forever? Please, this roster (with tweaks) can be enough to give Sid and Geno one of their last chances. But not with Sullivan at helm. They wasted enough years with him.

Pretty sure nothing will beat Sullivan's stubburness and lack of in game adjustment or lack of roster usage effectivity out of him.
Agreed.

I feel like if any ownership group would pull the trigger on firing a finished coach who is still owed millions , it’d be this one.

On one hand, Sullivan still needs to go

On the other, if the team keeps winning, I can also go back to not caring who is behind the bench
Sullivan getting outcoached by basically any coach in the 1st or 2nd round isn't fun tho. But I think this what goanna happen if Pens will make the playoffs. We saw this tale already.

I think the hope is that having Karlsson around makes them more likely to win a series they'd otherwise deserve to lose. And hey...it might work!

Can we please stop with the “one last chance” crap. Their one last chance was 2018 when they still had a young roster. They practically overhauled the roster in this offseason & still have an old team. Plus, some of this rigidness is on the players. They refuse to play the style the current talent dictates. A lot of them still think it’s 2017. Sully caters to it because he’ll lose the room if he tried to impose a different system. This team is done winning Cups.

It's probably too much to hope that maybe Carter is either reconsidering his no trade clause or contemplating retirement.
Lol…yes it is…I’ve been hoping he LTIRetired and we could trade that contract to a team for something…

Carter hurt himself somehow, apparently. Just day-to-day, though.

The double edge sword of being a HS - he cant get hurt and go on LTIR.

That said, my unethical monster side wants Dubas to tell him he'll never in the lineup ever again and to help the team he needs to go on LTIR.

I'm probably in the minority here, but if JC is on the team (and I believe he won't be sent out) I think he has a role here.

He's got position flexibility and can fill anywhere on the 4th line. Injuries are going to happen during the year...we aren't going to run the same 4th line for the next 70 games

Do I wish he was on this team with this contract? Absolutely not. But given the circumstances, it'Sully's job to find him a meaningful role.

“I think we’re not 25 anymore, and that’s the first thing,” said Letang. “But yeah, sometimes you realize that when someone wants to score goals on you, and they’re willing to sell the farm to do so, playing good defense might actually lead to more or better offense.”

Just remember that when you lose your temper and start taking idiotic penalties @Kristopher Letang :sarcasm:

I think the early season was a wake-up for both Sullivan and the star players in that even with adding Karlsson, they're not good enough anymore to out-skill younger and faster teams. They still clearly have talent, but a talented 35 year old team is almost never going to beat a talented 25 year old team.

There have already been some tweaks to their system from Sullivan that have yielded positive results, but I think we'll also be seeing tweaks to the play styles from all of their older core players. I definitely think Letang has been a bit calmer this year compared to past years, and Karlsson is obviously not playing as a rover anymore.
