Wow can you challenge the non call of a too many men penalty? I mean could Ruff really have had Toronto look at it, if the call on the ice hadn’t been made?

I certainly didn’t understand that was reviewable. Someone will know the rule book better than me. I always thought reviews were limited to very precise situations like off sides, goalie interference, kicked puck, goal scored with a stick above the cross bar. Is (again) a non call of too many men reviewable?

But yeah as to it not even being a close call - Yes 100%. They called it because it was an obvious infraction.
I think they can ... they can protest the goal can't they .... anyway they review all goals ...anyway I thought they did ... plus the whistle was blown before the goal was scored.

A friend of mine on a text chain was getting on VV for the Crosby goal. I was like really? Yeah best goalie we've had since the early VS era. Who in his era we lose a game like today because Mike Cammalleri can't be Jack Hughes.

*edit* CS and anytime Marty was here
To be fair to Blackwood, he had a similar run like this in 19-20 and it lasted a little bit longer than this, as he played close to 50 games that year, but as we all saw........ It wasn't to be repeated.

The Crosby goal wasn't a good one, but at the same time, there was more of a screen on that than the Severson goal on Martin Jones the other night and some of these ''Screens'' that go in on Blackwood.

Ok deleted
Yeah...I was about to say...

I thought maybe you saw it differently LIVE and the freeze-frame was just an optical illusion or something.

I guess he wanted to beat everyone to the parking lot so he can get out and get home.

Or maybe he wanted to go to the Mens room to take a massive dump, I don't know.....

I think Hughes is the best forward I've ever seen here.

And we've had good forwards, but we've only had one HOF caliber forward in Elias, save for a few passerby's that came through when they were older and way later in their career like Gilmour, Andreychuk, Nieuwendyk and Shanahan, who we drafted but he was outta here when he was pretty young.

I won't say best player, as we've had 2 defensemen and 1 goalie that were as good/better, but I think Hughes will be in the conversation for one of the best Devils of all time.

Well it wasn't an especially entertaining game, but if you like Vitek saves the last two periods of regulation were for you
Loved that one desperation save for sure... but the whole game was pretty gross. We had a good chance of going into the third with 10 total shots on net and only a couple of good ones, and it really was just a tightly checked game. Our guys need to find ways to start manufacturing offense in games like this, or we need to add a player who can. Personally, I'd like to get someone to do what Wood and Bastian should be doing - being a pest to goaltenders and defensemen.

Absolutely. He hasn't won anything yet. And that'll cement it for him, but I think he's the best skater I can remember. Nieds was smooth, but certainly not as dynamic. There were guys like Tedenby but they weren't even close. He probably has the best hands, although there are quite a few guys with really nifty mitts.

Jagr is probably still the best to wear our uni - Kovy in full health at full speed was pretty breathtaking, but... yeah, I think you're right that this guy will be our best forward. I don't know if anyone touches Marty and Stevens.

Also hockey is weird. The team is playing crappy in January and winning yet they actually played well in December and couldn’t buy a win.

Idk man. I don't remember seeing much good hockey in December. They certainly had a bunch of games they 'deserved to win' but they still made lots of terrible mistakes and breakdowns and generally couldn't complete a pass... partially bc the other teams took stuff away... November was glorious

Cmon this is one of the most ridiculous plays ever. The other Pen is off screen to the left inside the Pens zone.

Thanks for posting this. Believe it or not the stupid ass NHLN production never showed an angle where you could see the line change that led to the 2 on 1 and then the penalty call.

I'm a big "call the rulebook" guy, but I'd say that I wouldn't want to win a game on a call like that unless the too many men was egregious or consequential, and this was clearly both.

There was some talk about our schedule being pretty tough at the end of the season. Even one of the players (I think Palat?) mentioned he looked at the schedule after the break and there’s a lot of playoff teams.

But I know we still have Columbus twice, the Habs two more times, Ottawa one more time. Chicago and Arizona on the road. I think we have the Flyers one more time. St. Louis on the road. We probably have the Islanders a couple more times. Buffalo too.

I haven’t really checked the schedule, but we should even have some of those teams post-deadline, where they’ll be worse and we may potentially be even better.

I know we do play Tampa all three times this year in about 7 nights. That’ll be tough.
