I agree with some of what you say. The players have to generate team identity. The Team Identity is not going to be 'we will become a talented team". I state the obvious.
The Team Identity could be, however, something like 'we will take advantage of our opponent through hard work", something like that.
Sometimes I do wonder about coaching.
Don't fool yourself, tonight's game was a perfect opportunity to go full bore and beat the Penguins. The Rangers showed no inclination to do that. They played a non-physical game, they followed the Penguins lead. They did not try to set the tempo.
Say what you will, but that is failing to play as well as you can.

I'm not trying to say that we played our best, or that we're achieving our ceiling, or anything of that nature. Just simply trying to say what we've done these last few games is progress.

Too much negativity on the board. We're not the most talented. We haven't had the best team identity since 2 years ago. We're no longer the hardest working team. Our coach isn't earning his pay check. Our players, for the most part aren't earning their pay checks, and our GM isn't earning his paycheck.

But to say that we haven't improved from where we were merely a week ago is ignorance. I'm not saying that you're saying that, just saying in general, for those who are hammering away tonight. It's a positive.

I'm not expecting this team to win the cup this year, and maybe not even make the playoffs. But building on a team identity that has mental fortitude is essential to the success of a club. If some of our young players can glean that this season, it won't be a lost effort, even if we don't make the playoffs.

That's great.

Too bad I was talking about OT and powerplay.

That is also head scratching to me. Seems to me that the only possible explanation is to say that AV doesn't view him as defensively responsible enough to play on 4 on 4 situations.

THAT hit the NAIL right on the head. if i can't notice you in the opponents zone..what are you doing this team doesn't put forth the full 60 minute effort. they know it yet no one steps up to do it all they do is talk about it but its not changing. WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR!

Scary thing is, I felt the Pens were better defensively tonight with all the Wilkes-Barre kids than they usually are when healthy. They have got some solid prospects in the pipeline and certainly have the depth to overcome a multitude of injuries. That's what good, talented depth looks like. The Rangers don't have that.

idk what AV is thinking we've seen brilliance for kreids with his speed on a back-check. its ricidulous these coaches this gm this roster. something should change.

Just frustrating no other way to put it. Glad to see Henrik played better tonight. Were going to need more performances out of him like this.

They traded Staal when their depth was thinning out. Got a very good return. We have the same opportunity with the likes of Girardi, MDZ, Brassard, Stralman, Boyle, Callahan, Staal.

I'm not saying trade any or all of these players. Management has ability to pick and choose who it wants to be part of the core and who it trades to retool moving forward. Pens management was sensible enough to part with a fan favorite for the good of its franchise moving forward. Does Sather have this initiative and foresight? Methinks no.

I agree with you on that. Management has to be looking at these various options. The problem is that management (read Sather, Glen) may have the wrong goal, and therefore the wrong everything. We know that wrong is quite probable.

Missed the game.

Looked bad I assume?

Actually, no I thought we were really solid. The comeback was great. The Pens first goal was lucky and their second goal shouldn't have counted. It was set up by Kunitz snapping McDonagh's stick in half which is an automatic penalty. Of course they didn't see it.

The third goal was legit, that was just Del Zotto Del Zottoing.

Nice come back, failed short.
There was a time when this team was watchable earlier this season, they are not anymore. I don't know what happened, but since AV called out the core players and the D except McDonagh, the team has not looked the same.
The Pens transition game is so good, no matter who they stick in there it clicks. they are like a well oiled machine. Tape to tape, precision passing and they enter the zone with speed.
If the Rangers forwards ever learn to lift the puck consistently, they will score more goals.

Nash is who I thought he was, small sample size last year years skewed perception.

Would move him in heartbeat. Time to hit the reset button. Almost enjoyed AV running out that PP unit in OT. Watch the high priced scrubs do **** all.

So then what's everyone *****ing about? Nash have a bad game? Defense look bad?

The Pens were missing their top 4 D and Rangers offense sputtered. Transition game was meh, they couldn't finish when they had the chances when the game was there for the taking. Hagelin was noticeable, Kreider was too. Brass had a good game, even if he didn't score the tying goal. Zuke was the best forward. They had a PP in OT and Kreider was not on, hence no screen, hence barely any shots.
Hank was great, Defense was good. I thought J Moore looked much better, Falk was less than good. DZ had a good game except for the 3rd goal where Sutter put a sweet move on him.

People ***** and whine even when we win on this board.

Are we a good team? Not really. But tonight's effort looked promising.

First period was very solid.

As MH said, first goal was on luck. Hags tied the game on a nice break away.

3rd period started and the teams exchanged chances. Kunitz broke McDonough's stick. Normally, that type of slash shouldn't have broken McDonough's stick, but it did... and right in front of the refs. Not the first time in the night they missed a blatant slash on a Ranger player. McD lost his stick, couldn't play Kunitz who was now wide open in front of Henrik, by himself. It was a bang bang play.

Rangers pressed a little bit. Refs called a ridiculous penalty on Dorsett and a Pens player (I forget his name but he's the one with the dirty pedo stache who got tossed down in OT by Poo). The 2 players had been chirping through the faceoff and then I guess they started wacking at each others legs every now and again off the camera cause next thing you know the refs blow the whistle, surround them although neither looked like they had any intention of scrapping, and off to the penalty box they went.

In an effort to capitalize on the 4-4 more space on the ice, AV put Del Zotto on. All 4 Rangers players chipped in the zone, a bad shot led to an odd man rush. DZ rushed back, was kind of on his heals trying to defend the guy. In basketball terms DZ had his ankles broken. Wasn't a pretty play, but he was pretty solid throughout the night. Not an accurate indication of his play today.

We went down 3-1. About 5 minutes later we scored to make it 3-2. We got a powerplay on a high sticking with about 2:45 and the powerplay tied it. In any event, our PP has been much better than at any point under Torts. We created several more chances but Fleury stopped them. Went to OT. Had a PP there. On a 4-3 powerplay, I don't understand why AV refuses to put Zucc on the first unit. We created good chances on the PP but didn't capitalize.

The rest of OT was wide open. Great saves all around. Went to a SO. No one scored until the 5th round when Pitt won it. Fleury is good in the SO, at least against us. Zucc and Richards put on good moves, neither could slip it 5 hole on MAF. Ironic that Henrik let up a goal through his 5 hole.

Intensity level improved. Line chemistry improved. Lundqvuist made big saves when he had to. The defense was for the most part better. Our offense still missed the net at an abysmal rate, but that's due to talent. For the most part there was a night and day improvement from the team's demeanor last week. Doesn't mean they're at the level they need to be yet, or that they will even reach it, but it looked promising tonight.

Tonight wasn't the worst game IMO. It's just that to be put on that emotional ride of tying it up only to lose anyway was a dagger to the heart.

In the grand scheme of things it was a nice effort.

And people talk about the Pens injuries but frankly I think they look great like this. When they're healthy I think there's just too much damn star power on that team. I think they're a more cohesive hockey team when they just put a scrappy team around Crosby.

I'm noticing that a lot too, Nash is just, dogging it. Bad.

A Penguin getting away with a blatant stick slash? Where have I heard that before?

Pretty cool to come back down from 3-1. I ****ing hate shootouts though. Always. Even if we win.

It's still definitely insulting that we lost to basically an AHL team, but they've won what 5 in a row now? What're you gonna do......

Whatever, on to the next one.
