Confirmed with Link: Penguins acquire conditional first round pick, three players for Pettersson and O'Connor

Scouting report on Desharnais for those interested:

Massive body, takes up a lot of space in front of his net but that's about all he does on the positive side. Best you can hope for him is he keeps his game simple and just doesn't do anything dumb, AKA your typical 7/8 D-man.

Whatever potential the Canucks thought they saw in him likely isn't there. I would be surprised if he ever becomes a good bottom pairing D-man. Just does not have NHL level skating, IQ or puck skills.

Also not really a physical presence despite his size.

From Elite Prospects- Melvin Fernstrom
Fernström reads the play away from the puck, anticipates where the next pass will come, and he gets there just as his puck-carrying teammates turn to execute the play. His shot may not be the most powerful, but he gets it off from the right positions and angles to score.

Unless JT Miller rebounds in a big way, that Rangers pick might end up being top 10 next season. Zibanejad and Kreider are declining pretty heavily. Panarin's gonna be 34 next year. Igor's gonna be making $12M AAV.
I think NYR will bounce back.

We can find another middling top 4 positional defense guy somewhere else.
We're already stuck with 2. 1 of which is very hard to move and much worse than Pettersson.

Worst case scenario for us is if that pick is like 12th this year and like 30th next year. Not the end of the world by any means, just not as good as it would have been.

Be happy for an hour my man.

What am I supposed to be happy about? Dubas came in to keep this team competitive and now we are already setting up the roster for an even shittier year next year taking on dorks like Heinen.

It’s embarrassing. It sucks to see him throw in the towel. But, solid trade for DOC and Petts.

Completely disagree with the mindset Dubas has had here since he got here and he’s handicapped this franchise incredibly in such a short time frame it is honestly impressive.

I seriously think Sid may walk.

Yeah, but mostly, this team is going to be very bad regardless. I'd rather have physical defenders than positional transition guys who play a game we cannot play anymore. Pettersson is a fine add for this team like 10 years ago. Now, we have to be realistic about what kind of game we can play.

Desharnais isn't really that answer, by any means, but you can bury him in the minors at least.

I mean are you happy with Graves then? Cause I think he's the worst part of the team in every way. Even Sully(who should've been gone 3 years ago) doesn't even play him sometimes.

No one was going to keep this team competitive indefinitely. A rebuild was always in the cards. It's just happening sooner than first projected.

Yes. Because the general manager is an uncreative stooge who won’t fire the coach to protect his own ass.

It’s embarrassing political level bullshit.

Glad we got a 1st and 3rd.

Still don’t know why anyone would have faith in Dubas doing anything but be John Chayka 2.0 here.

I am not happy with a single blue liner we have under contract. But I think Graves is buy-out fodder, he's not tradeable.

Romanian drug dealer
I was wondering why he looked familiar.

Yeah, I mean, the pick's gonna be whatever it ends up being. Team got an extra 1st in exchange for a Petts who was struggling this season and made no sense to move. /shrug

Best case scenario, the pick gets bumped to next season and the Rangers crumble due to age. Worst case, it's probably like a ~20th overall this year.

Getting another 1st from an asset standpoint is huge. It’s kinda funny that Dubas potentially got more for Petts than Guentzel while taking back similar amount of cap dump.
