I think with the Rangers pick you probably just hope it's 14th this year and leave it at that.

It's hypothetically nice to imagine getting their unprotected first next year but with the cap going up and that being the scenario I'm sure the Rangers would do everything possible to not suck next year. An unprotected first in 2026 is only good if it ends up being a high pick again and I'm sure the Rangers would do everything in their power to make sure it's not.

Also getting the pick now expedites the rebuild a little bit more as well.

I've come around to thinking wherever they end up this year is best for us.

If they finish 14th or better, then that's a sign they've improved with Miller and will probably be back in the mix next year. So them starting from a big hole this year gives us a better pick than what we'd get next year.

If they continue to suck, though, then they're in big trouble and I'll be glad to gamble on getting another lottery ball for next year's draft.

I’m not as patient. I can’t delay gratification or whatever. I wanna get this rebuild going, especially with not having a 1st this past draft. Get a Martone, Desnoyers or Hagens that could possibly step in right away, then a solid longer-term prospect that can battle for a spot in another year or two.

Can’t agree. Unless they are exceptional - all these young guys/rookies struggle either way it seems.

By the time either the “safe” or “upside” draft pick starts being useful on NHL ice you get such a more useful, aggressive, talented growth curve out of the more athletic/talented “upside” prospect on average IMO

Probably a #3, good positional DFD with a strong outlet pass. Good partner for an OFD like Karlsson and Letang, which is the role he filled here.

He should be playing with Hronek on the 2nd pair. He does fit really well with Hughes but he's purely a LD.

He's a 2/3.

His weaknesses are very, very few which is why he's a 2/3. His only real weakness is that he's thin as a rake which means sometimes he gets outmuscled.

His strength is that he's smart, works hard, has a really big reach, and makes simple plays very well.

He's a do it all guy who doesn't quite have the skill or skating to really boss things and who maybe isn't quite as physically robust as you'd like a DFD to be, but slots in great as the reliable sidecar to an offensive guy and who you'll rarely regret having out there.

Also, considering his physical shape and the game he plays ( he gets hit a ton and he'll drop the gloves to protect a team mate), he is ridiculously resilient. Famous last words but he hardly ever gets injured.

I know the cap is rising but how much will the Rags actually have to spend? They have a lot of hefty contracts. Do they have much cap coming off the books?
