PC Building Guide and Discussion #14

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

AMD introduces $599 Radeon RX 9070 XT and $549 RX 9070 RDNA4 GPUs

The XT's pricing is a relief and what I realistically hoped that it'd be. Credit to AMD for listening to the community. Also, it's nice to see comparisons to other cards at native settings and not with upscaling and frame gen enabled. Their slides show the XT being only 2% slower than the 5070 Ti at 4K Ultra settings in 30+ games and only 8% slower in the raytraced titles (but 2% faster and only 5% slower, respectively, for the OC models). So, it's pretty close to the performance of the 5070 Ti at 4K for $150 less.

The non-XT's pricing is puzzling and reminiscent of the initial pricing of the 7900 XT and 7700 XT. No one is going to buy the non-XT if the XT is only $50 more, but the upsell may be the plan, and then the non-XT might sell when the cheapest XT models go out of stock.

Honestly, the $600, and IF it has actual availability, the XT could be a massive boon for AMD.

But yeah, the non-XT should of been $500. It basically gets suffocated and killed by XT sales.

The 5070 is no faster than the 4070 Super. :whaaa?:

Nvidia still refusing to put any decent amount of VRAM is the real joke of each new generation. It's just planned obsolescence.

If they made phones, they would have 32GB as a standard and 64GB if you are willing to pay a premium for their high-end model.

As expected, the 9070 XT's raster performance lands between the 7900 XT and 7900 XTX and between the 5070 and 5070 Ti, while the RT performance is a lot better than the 7900 XTX and on par with the 5070.

Surprisingly, FSR 4 provides slightly better image quality than DLSS 3 (with the CNN model), though it falls quite a bit short of DLSS 4 (with the Transformer model). It still seems like quite an accomplishment.

Reading all these reviews, I don't think I'll be able to get my hands on the 9070XT tomorrow.

Stock levels are reportedly very high (greater than all 50 series cards combined), so there may be a good chance of getting one if you're early. They go on sale at 9am EST, so check all of the major sites (Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, etc.) at that time, if you can.

Assuming availability, here's a spreadsheet to help with choosing a model:

I just pasted a link to Google Sheets and the board automatically rendered the whole spreadsheet. Neat.

I just needed a 50 series to get the 240Hz out of my 57" Samsung monitor. I was just able to land the 5070 Ti at Best Buy. What's a good place to try to sell my 4070 Ti?

How do you like the monitor? It's on my wish list but the price is a bit steep at the moment and I have a 3 monitor setup right now so I'm not sure how I'd like the single monitor. Do you just use it as one large screen or do you set up zones?

So much for the high stock levels. All of the MSRP models sold out within a couple of minutes at Newegg and BestBuy. Twice, I was able to add a card to my cart and start checkout at Newegg, only to be told that it was now out of stock. Amazon, instead of making all models available at the launch time, has been adding listings very slowly, but no MSRP models and I'm starting to doubt that we'll see them.

I make most major purchases on Amazon to take advantage of the 12 month payment plans. Takes the sting out of buying expensive things I don't really need. I love the monitor. I think the 49" has most of the issues but I see some about the 57" as well but I'm coming up on one year of ownership with zero problems, knock wood. I'm not a fan of multiple monitor set ups but I do use the dual screen quite a bit. It's nice to have 2 browsers or spreadsheets open and still be able to see everything. Gaming can be tricky with HUDS on the side or corners of the screen that you have to turn your head to see due to the width.

I'd probably have to utilize FancyZones or some other similar tool because I don't want games to be that large and I like having multiple windows open. Aside from the tech aspect, the clean look and no bezels between screens would be heaven.

I'm seeing a very small number on Amazon only from other merchants, overpriced, with long lead times. Already miles better than any recent Nvidia launch. It'll be my first time getiting an AMD card, if the stock comes in.

Amazon hides listings once they're out of stock. Overpriced ones from other merchants are likely scalpers who ordered them on Amazon today and are trying to re-sell them, but need long lead times because they don't even have the cards yet, themselves.

XT cards that are sold by Amazon come in stock every now and then, but sell out within minutes, and they've all been $730-$850 models. The one that seems to come in stock the most is the PowerColor Hellhound. That might be your best bet to check for, if you can stomach the $759.99 price. I almost pulled the trigger this morning, but resisted because I hoped that MSRP models would show up (which never happened). At this point, I might just cave and grab it if I get the opportunity because I may regret it if I don't.

AMD RX 9070 XT In Stock Tracker - NowInStock.net might be helpful. If you register, you can set alerts (browser, text or e-mail) for the models that you're interested in. I just set it up, myself. We'll see if it works.

Edit: It works... but clicking Buy Now even only a few seconds after I got the alert wasn't enough to get the Hellhound. Either Amazon was saying there was stock when there wasn't or bots grabbed them all within seconds. This may be hopeless.

Thanks for that, unfortunately I was on AM4 so I swapped out my motherboard and RAM and did a clean install of windows.

So far the difference between this CPU and my 5900X has been pretty substantial, at least in the games I've tested (Avowed and Starfield). I'm now able to have a solid high frame rate experience in both games without frame gen.

Nvidia is at it again with misleading marketing.

If you'd rather not watch, they boasted that they've shipped twice as many 50 series cards as 40 series cards in the first five weeks. The problem is that only the 4090 had been launched after five weeks, while four 50 series cards (5090, 5080, 5070 Ti & 5070) have been.
