Maurice leaving is just the first person that needs to go. If he wants to believe he's leaving on his own terms , fine, and this team needs a new head coach, but if the only change that this organization makes... they are totally out of touch with reality.

Class guy, nice guy and all that but he was just a few losses away from the pink slip!

This is bad news. Odds are Huddy/Lowry or whoever is taking over the coaching duties right now gets to run with a ball for a couple of years because that's how this org operates. They should have waited till the summer to conduct a proper coaching search if this was the direction they wanted to go in. I don't have much faith in either Huddy or Lowry to do a better job than Maurice. This is a step back from where I see it.
Yeah but they had to try everything to save this season given the moves we made in offseason.

Yesterday I posted on this site for the first time since November in the Buffalo PGT and said:

I usually leave the coaching topic alone but For the first time since he was hired I think our coach is in danger of losing his job. Next 4 - 10 games are important for Paul’s career in Winnipeg in my opinion.

I've been wondering where you've been. Come back stranger, this board needs your posts (and I enjoy reading them lol).

While many here will welcome this as excellent news - you never know what you have until it's gone, or replaced by something worse.

At least he waited until Boudreau signed somewhere else.

Tortorella is still available though, right?

Can players have a clause in their contract like a No Trade to some teams...

Have a No Torts' clause... ?

Did Maurice pull a Buff.

Still seems pretty wrestling promo to me. Not necessarily scripted but the talking points are all there.

I just have a hard time believing that all of a sudden Paul just realized... I'm not the man for the job.

One thing he said really stood out:

'I texted Pete Deboer this morning and I said, "I win."'

When you manage a team of people you get to know them fairly intimately. I take his statement to mean that he knew the players were done with him and that he was going to be fired at some point here(he'd be talking to Chipman and Chevy every day). People who haven't managed others may not understand. But when you know you're done as a leader, you know.

It likely had been something he's been contemplating since the end of last season, and perhaps with Wheeler's injury he realized that his leadership is no longer as strong in the room as it used to be.

It would be fantastic if he took the rest of the season off, and then returned to the Jets organization in the back office somehow. I doubt that would happen... but it'd be nice.

He went out showing the same class and dignity that he consistently demonstrated during his tenure. I really wish we could have won it all with him as coach. He loved this city.

Many loyal Jet fans rightfully asked for this change, not because of any disdain or dislike for the coach, but we also knew it was time to go another direction. I wish him all the best... I just wish there was some way he could continue working in hockey while still being a citizen of Winnipeg. That's up to him now.

i wonder how much this has been weighing on him. i know he gets his $$$$ so have to work through the good and bad times but still. i've noticed the bags under the guys eyes and his general "defeated" look as of late. but shit must have been really bad.

Please Understand
The org will pay him through the rest of the remainder of his contract which end this year imo.

They are too classy not to do so.

Had to be bullied to pay support staff and part-timers at the start of the pandemic after they said "They work when we work.", but will surely pay Paul Maurice the remainder of his contract.

Anyways, let's hope the Islanders continue their stride and Barry Trotz suddenly becomes available at the end of the season. Also, please f***ing get rid of Charlie Huddy.
