Noesen is a great story, his whole career in the NHL looked pretty much done after 2021. Went back to the minors, dominated, and has come back playing the best he ever has.

Cotter isn't very surprising to me, he was always a solid threat from depth with VGK, a guy capable of scoring a good amount from the bottom six such that you couldn't just go get a drink while the 4th liners are on. Figured he'd have 15-20 goals in him with more opportunity but I don't know how long he could last up the lineup.
Noesen is definitely an interesting story, he always struck me as kind of a tweener but played a good enough game more recently to earn some time, would be cool to see him really stick and carve out a career in his 30s (I know he's played a good amount thus far).
Not trying to be a wet blanket but both guys are riding elevated shooting % so far too...both could go off and have fantastic years though.

Noesen turning into a good NHLer after missing most of his first 4 seasons at the pro level due to injury is unreal.
Missing that much key development time would have ended the careers of most prospects. Credit to him.

Boy did I get angry with that trade for Cotter when it happened. Not so much because of Schmid, who had been made irrelevant with two NHL goalies in place and the decision to go with Daws (which has looked rather foolish, NGL), but because I figured Holtz was going to will his way to 40 goals. But Holtz doesn't have a goal yet, last I checked, and Cotter has been a real jolt to that bottom six. Noesen's second tour of duty has been a welcome one.
Sure would be nice to get some more for that bottom line with Lazar and Bastian out long term. I don't want to see another second of MacDermid.

Noesen was an interesting situation on the Canes. They gave him a one way after he scored 49 goals in the AHL, and he did get PP time but I felt they could’ve used him more than they did. He skating was the issue, he has trouble playing the high tempo forecheck style we play. It’s funny though, he looks like he’s moving faster with the Devils and has more chemistry with his linemates 5v5. I wonder if he just didn’t feel comfortable with us and his timing never clicked. He’s looks fantastic on the Devils (Canes North) this year. I’m happy for him, he’s really earned his way back into the league.

That goal in the video you attached is an illustration of what Noesen does. Goes to the hard spots and sets up shop and either occupies a defender, or makes them regret not being occupied by him. As many times as he’s able to set up in that spot with a puck coming at him, that’s about how many goals he’ll score.
Is it going to keep happening at this pace? Most likely not. It’s early in the season and we all know that by the new year defenses will get tighter, leave less space for that sort of thing. Still, he’s a good role player and I don’t know too many Canes fans who actively wanted him gone.

Fitz really hit it out of the park with his off season moves so far. Noeson, Cotter, kovacevic, pesce, markstrom and Allen have all played big parts in a decent start so far. Definitely a harder team to play than last year. Broadcast last night showed a stat that the win over the panthers was the 8th game so far of allowing 1 goal or less. They only did that 10 times all of last season.
Trades can’t be evaluated for years down the line, especially swapping young players that need a change of scenery. That being said, reading the holtz schmid cotter trade thread someday will probably be fun.

nj was lacking these types of players and it was painfully obvious. they are a much more complete team now.

IMO they still can't compete with the better teams, Florida ran them into the ground last night. NJ held on to steal the win, but in a 7 game series they're going to wither.

they'll need some playoff experience for sure. they'll get in this year but i think in the end they get knocked out by the rangers in the 2nd round. i think that sets them up for a big 2025-26 season.

-Barely any practices since they've played so many game in a short period
-a lot of personal changes in the roster
I think they are doing pretty great.
Holtz for Cotter is the sort of deal that makes these boards explode (TOP 10 PICK FOR A 4TH LINER LOL!) but in real life has actually been a brilliant bit of pro scouting.
