With Vrabel still available and Meyo not having a great season but also the way he was coaching, this was basically going to be the result of their HC search. They must have been surprised to still see Vrabel available, so decided to act quickly and get him.

See what kind of staff he puts together. He's not as tied to the NE staff as BB, so see how many of his former TEN coaches he brings in. But, OC is the key hire for him.

there are much worse openings than this, getting to build this team from scratch when they already have a promising young QB is very enticing IMO

Vrabel had Mariotta and Tannehill in Tenn. Carr is no better than them. AOC isn't either. Jets, no clue who they have.
Lawrence has regressed since rebounding with a good year 2.
Left Maye and Williams as 2nd year QBs with their teams.

Unless Dallas ends up looking too by letting McCarthy leave.

Patriots have money and a QB who looks like you can give it a go with. That’s everything you can ask for. The proven QBs don’t have coach openings and if they do…the team can get anyone they want to take it. Job in New England is a good one.

Credit to Vrable, he had the good sense not to coach for Belichick who may have been running a long game sabotage opperation on the opposition with his assistants.
