Kraft probably only fired him because he didn't wear the sacred pin in the postgame press conference

But now that it's done I really don't even want to spend anymore time on Mayo. I don't even blame Jerod Mayo for this. Bob Kraft looks like a complete and utter buffoon at the moment.

Never did a proper coaching search and then tell us his love story regarding Mayo. The "Thundercat" nonsense. In some ways Mayo deserves better than this. But the takeaway is Kraft is a complete embarrassment right now. Having to fire your chosen coach in waiting after ONE season is nothing short of a disaster. The Hall of Fame will have to wait.

Time to open your wallet, do a proper search and get this going in right direction. With that said I fully expect it to be someone Kraft is comfortable with. I expect it to be Mike Vrabel.

Do your due diligence. Interview Ben Johnson, Vrabel, Flores, Kingsbury, Liam Coen, maybe Joe Brady. Prioritize how they can help Maye become a Super Bowl winning QB. Let them decide who from the coaching and personnel staff stays.

If he was going to be fired why did they let him Coach the game
Maybe the immediacy of the firing suggests it was something that happened today that set them off...

Posted in other thread but Eliot Wolf staying on

Here we go again now

This is f***ING absurd unless you are hiring someone above Wolf to oversee everything

I have no interest in Kliff Kingsbury

I also don't really trust the Krafts to do this properly. They are comfortable with Vrabel and that's who it will be.

Easy to see coming. Going beyond the overall record, they played like a team that wasn't prepared, all the rumors of locker room instability, Mayo's weird comments to the press, and then the coup de grace: enduring a long, pitiful season but with the silver lining of the 1st overall in their hands only to win the last game of the season to drop them in the draft order.

Maye looks like he's the real deal, I still like Douglas and Stevenson as solid returning pieces, Boutte showed us something as the year went on to be hopeful of his future progression, CG is a foundational piece on D - lots of work for the team to do this offseason.

For those who think they should interview people other than Vrabel……

Why?

He’s got a track record, seemingly wants to be here and certainly has a presence that will help them re-develop a positive culture.

Who else is out there that anyone would want instead?

Right. Also, why fire him IMMEDIATELY after the game? Why not give him the dignity of being fired on black Monday? Something happened today. You aren’t losing Vrabel by waiting to fire Mayo on Monday morning. Something stinks here.

I agree he is 99.9% the guy, they still need to do their due diligence.

Well for starters you actually do have to interview two minority candidates. As for interviewing others, why not? It seems like Vrabel will take this job if offered. But why not interview all legit candidates and see if anyone blows you away? I think Vrabel would be a good choice but I also wouldn't be upset if they hired an offensive minded coach to work with Maye.

Brian Flores seems like a no brainer as one of the minority candidates by the way.

Rumors suggesting Ben Johnson leaning towards staying in Detroit.

Totally agree. Not doing this tomorrow feels personal.

Think they also wanted to change the headlines from "Pats Blow Top Pick" to "Pats Fire Unpopular Coach."

Take your medicine for one f***ing day.
