Could you elaborate on the bolded? What are you getting at?

I am getting at the fact that the 94 Devils shot 11.5% during the regular season and were a top offense in the NHL, finishing 2nd in the NHL - they had a +86 goal differential. The 95 team had a pro-rated +~29 goal differential and they were middle of the pack in scoring. They shot 9.4% in the regular season. Then they shot 11% in the playoffs and stormed their way to a Stanley Cup. In short, regular season scoring just doesn't have much to do with playoff scoring - I'd rather have a good process and bad outcomes than a bad process and good outcomes. The Devils shooting like Washington over the first half of the season wouldn't make me confident about them scoring in the playoffs.

A JT Miller for Dougie trade is horrific for both sides (and I've been one of the people talking about looking at moving Dougie early, for a long time now).

If you want to cause a massive rift in the locker room and probably cause a feud between Jack and JT, then sure, Miller is your man. If you're a fan of on-ice temper tantrums and performative stick-smashing, JT is the guy. If you like "controller disconnected" clips of profound laziness, by all means, JT is the top choice.

Doesn’t he have trade protection? I doubt NJ is a real landing spot for him anyway. He will have his heart set on the Rangers but Zibanejad has a NMC so I doubt that happens.

It's a full NMC.

There are reports that he only would want to go to the Rangers, but I don't think they're credible. Nobody connected with the Canucks has revealed a "JT destination list". His ego is massive, so if they presented him with a trade, I think he would waive barring the destination being a true bottom-feeder.

Ehh I wouldn't want Miller. It really doesn't do anything for us. Miller comes with an attitude and he's not going to want to play 3C for us which is what we need. Force him in the top 6 and we're still missing a 3rd line center. With our PP being so good he wouldn't even get pp1 time. He would be a great add for our 2nd PP but it would just be easier to fill in a true 3rd line center and winger

Can we start talking about the incredibly suspicious officiating against the Devils this season? There shouldn’t be more than a couple of games per season where the opponent takes zero penalties yet it seems it’s happened to this team several times already halfway through the year. A multitude of games where they get just 1-2 power plays. Constant questionable decisions in nearly every game where the devils seems to get held to a more strict standard than the opponent.

I have never ever been a conspiracy theorist of any kind, much less with nhl officiating. Incompetence can explain basically everything that’s wrong with it. But this year is different. There’s too much of a discrepancy going on and in a league where game management is a known thing, there’s no logical explanation for how/why one particular team would be getting hosed this frequently across 40+ games.

OK I looked it up and it seems the Devils are middle of the pack in PP opps, PK opps, and differential between the two. It does seem the issues with officiating have been more recent, maybe like last ~10 games or so as opposed to the entire season. If I have time maybe I'll look it up, but it's a bit of manual work I think.

Huala has value aside from just scoring. He kills penalties and wins faceoffs and is a good playoff guy. All that being said, he is usually good for 15 goals and he is mot even close to that pace this season.

Perhaps the ideal.solution would be to move Tatar to LW on the 3rd line with Mercer on the RW and find a good 3C for them. They meshed well together with Nico two years back. And then subsequently move Haula to the 4th line to generate some chemistry with Lazar and Cotter.
Nate becomes our depth forward with Mac by default.

Finding a 3C as it gets closer to the deadline is not an impoossible task at all.

I know it’s just randomness and not a conspiracy, since we lack a reason the refs would start screwing the Devils. Saying that, the game where the linesman consulted to waive off 2 Devils PP, one real and one that is never overturned, in this stretch of no calls was absolutely bizarre.

Who is the teams 7th dman now with DeSimone claimed by Utah. It will not be Nemec or Casey since they need to play as much as possible. Colton White? Hataaka is still injured I assume.
Hataaka has been skating so I assume it’ll be White for now and then he and Hataaka may rotate a bit between NHL and AHL to stay fresh.

Not a bad way to earn NHL salary.
