This franchise got a very good player for nothing and tearing him down is silly. Obviously, he was an outcast over there and he called them losers before the game. So what? Was it really that disrepectful that you have to injure him and make a coward out of him? That's straight up bullying and this behaviour has no place in the league anymore. Show some compassion instead. He left Columbus for a reason, you move on and let him be. Focus on hockey instead. Pacces called the Habs losers also, did the current Hab players try to plow him despite almost getting beheaded by Chara early on his career?
Bro, this is hockey and the NHL. If Laine is naive about the possible repercussions to him last night from a team that he just just needlessly trashed in the media, then he really lacks awareness (and self-awareness). Sometimes in life you have to bite your tongue and fudge the truth. Like yesterday. He reaped what he sowed.

You honestly think that Laine is a franchise player?
I don't. But he sure is better than what the Habs have currently on their squad apart from Hutson and Suzuki, and Caufield to a lesser extent. His injuries, ackwardness and mental health make him vulnerable and a risky long-term asset. He would be one of it wasn't for those issues.

Probably not.

Again, IF it was due to him lipping off, then he would have been benched from the get go.

Dang!

sampollock out here throwing shade

:eek3:
So if true that MSL pulled Laine to protect him - does that change the narrative around here?

The main issue from Habs fans seems to be fact he didn't back his talk up. Kinda hard to do that if coach pulls you

You think getting butthurt like that with a reporter, after a game they just WON is a good look?
Did you watch the video? Curious what you thought was wrong with it

Their current GM Don Waddell said the exact same thing about what the state of the organization had been, losing was acceptable.

No witch hunt for him, while stating the same observation.
Please tell me you see the difference with a new GM and a former teammate

I’m surprised no one went after DW physically in the CBJ executive offices. That’s just a weak comparison.

Of course I watched it otherwise wouldn't be commenting about it.

He was overly butthurt over some low-key trash talk from an ex player that they supposedly hated anyways.

Any classy player would just laugh that off. Instead Zach buckled down and poured his heart out to a reporter

He didn't reap anything if pulled for his own good. Player has a history of injuries and mental health issues, what do you expect from him? A goon? He's a flashy winger that can score 50, that's it. Obviously, he wasn't very liked over there. He called them losers. It was dumb, but his former teammates acted like a bunch of jerks. Drouin criticized the Habs too. Did Xhekaj try to bully him last game? Wow, they injured him, hopefully not, and that vindicates them somehow. Case closed.

That's cool and all but Laine took a couple of clean hits and he got injured.

Bodes well for the future. If he's not injured and MSL removed him from the game to protect him... says a lot about the player and the team.

Just target Laine if you're the opposite team, nobody is going to do anything about it.

Even in baseball you don't pull your Star if there's a chance the pitcher will throw at them, you make them take their lumps and there's a promise you will have their back

Nobody had any issue with what Waddell said because everyone knows it was true. They just have a problem when Laine said the same thing.
Because no one is going to physically attack DW, he’s not on the ice against 6 foot 200 lbs 20 year olds. DW is also the boss of the team. Who’s going to verbally go after him from within the org.? They’d be fired by him on the spot. Laine brought this on himself. Needs to be smarter going forward.

If you guys don’t understand why CBJ players where not happy with Laine comments, then I don’t know what to tell you… you guys probably never played a team sports.

If Laine made those comments this summer when he was traded or next summer the impact wouldn’t even be as high. He made those comments right before facing them, what was he expecting ? That’s provocation

Nobody has attacked Waddell on it here or in the press either. I'm not talking about the physical threat, I'm talking about the public outrage for one and acceptance for other for saying the same thing. Makes no sense.

If the observation was wrong, then it's wrong from both of them.

If the observation was correct, then it's correct for both of them.

That's how logic works.
