It can't last. It's a streak that'll come to an end, and Laine will go through a dry spell like every player.

But for now... holy cow... never seen anything like this. Especially for our team! For this brief capsule in time, let's enjoy watching the hottest scoring threat in the league in a Habs jersey!

I know people are 'angry' about the Dach and Newhook trades but Laine + Monahan trades were huge steal by Hughes. Maximizing cap space into top assets.
Not unhappy with Dach trade, verdict still out due to tough injury, loved his play 2nd half of first season and beginning of second (preseason). Was my favorite player during that time.

Never been a fan of Newhook since he's been here, though. Don't see a fit for him on the team, unless he suddenly becomes amazing defensively and plays on the 3rd line.

December PP goals

Winnipeg Jets 10
Florida Panthers 9
Patrik Laine 8
That's insane. Averaging 0.88 PPG/GP currently. Even with halved PP goals production for the rest of the season (49 games), and only with that, Patrik projects to 28-29 PP goals for the season.

Of course pace won't last way it is now, but it is easy to expect that "PP specialist" title will be truly earned, as it would be really, really special.

Crazy stuff.

For me it's shades of 06-07 Sheldon Souray and his 19 PP goals. Every damn power play that year felt like a guaranteed goal. It was something to behold.

Laine's streak is a bit like that. You see him in his office, and if he gets a good go at the puck, you feel like it's probably going in.

Obviously not sustainable to THIS level, but it sure is fun to watch. His shot is looking like it rivals prime Ovie for crying out loud. It's insane.

As someone who has watched pretty much all of his NHL games, and before that, I'd say it actually IS sustainable as long as he is healthy. Always has been that way.

Hutson is the key that Laine hasn't had before. That collaboration will break records. (Laine is very used to breaking them, just did tonight)

Tonight’s a good example. A hot player will get bounces. That crazy bounce was awesome. Also amazing that Slaf didn’t touch it. When you’re hot, you’re hot.

0.88 PPG/GP over the season pace is unsustainable, no matter how you look at it.

I'd be happy with 0.6-0.7 PPG/GP pace as Patty would probably crush several related records, and force a change to the way how PK is played. :vhappy:

But I won't hold my breath.

Habs tracking as a 100+ point team in the standings since Laine's return, for sure, but you really need to take into account the quality of the opposition faced...

Matchups against FLA and Vegas, etc., may well take that 5-3 record down a notch...
Habs are 10-7-1 since Nov 11 (improvement started pre-Laine)

You are underestimating Laine and putting a ceiling on him. He keeps proving all the naysayers wrong.

This is some 2007-2008 Kovalev season vibe and I'm enjoying every single minute of it.

With Patrik Laine emergence. We probably won't see Caufield score 40+ goals this season. Laine pretty much took his place as our PP sniper.

Laine's floor is near point per game.

I have no clue what the ceiling will be with optimal use, first line minutes and surrounding talent and 1st PP.

Goal per game?

We should invite thebus88 to here 👀

We absolutely should not.

I enjoyed everyone else in CBJ boards but that guy.
Next game is against Columbus, if Laine scores on the powerplay and Montreal wins you absolutely need to point out how wrong he was about Laine.
It's a matter of time before MSL rolls with Caufield - Suzuki - Laine. Once that happens Laine will really explode and the other two players will pop also.
Need to do that for the next game since it's against Columbus. This will be the most important game in Laine's career. You saw him take out his frustration against the Jets with 7 shots on goal and Laine had somewhat ok stats while paying in Winnipeg. Imagine how motivated he'll be playing against the team that tried to ruin his career! Also Columbus is the only team in NHL right now that Laine hasn't scored against (0+1 in 8 games played against Columbus) so he'll need all the help he can get! (Utah too, if you count that as a new team).

Brother. I have extensively highlighted, quoted stats, quoted players around Laine.

Absolutely nothing will convince or shame bus, there's no intelligence behind any of his ramblings.

It is dead, leave it lie where it is.
