Player Discussion Patrik Laine: Part 2 - Healthy Living Edition

There might be a problem regarding the PP. PP% for the last 18 games was 14.9%. This is after the short absence of Laine. As the season totals, there are 30 games without Laine starting, and the PP% is 20.4%. 52 games with Laine starting, and PP% is 19.9%.

Demidov shouldn't play with Laine. Free Demidov.
Hughes will have his hands full trying to get a 2c and a winger to play with Vanya

Getting him off the 2nd line should have happened much sooner but I'm ok with it. Heineman should have been moved up before his accident. At his current level of play I don't think there is any place for Laine on this team, pp specialist that gets nullified so easily isn't worth much. We will see if he can come back next year with more energy, otherwise who is going to sign a guy who sits on your fourth line and needs to be constantly fed one timers on pp? He doesn't even bring leadership like we were hoping.

I don't look at advanced stats but there's no way those were bad for the line or Laine yesterday.

But you guys keep seeing what you see

I don't hate Demidov with Laine as much as many others. They both flash high levels of skill and actually I think they might be able to build some chemistry. The downside is the lack of defensive experience, and Newhook MAYBE could carry that load but I'd really rather a bigger body who can finish. That said, willing to give Newhook a few more chances as his defensive game has really evolved this season.

Laine was almost a PPG player for columbus. They wanted to keep him, he wanted a trade. Try harder

Actually there were quite a lot rumours that Columbus was looking to trade him just before he was assigned to the player assistance program.

4th line is the energy line, bring the pace, good fore check. The complete opposite of what Laine is as a player. Do you even know what you are talking about onelostmarble
Every line is a "energy" line compared to what he brings. Every line does more forchecking or backchecking than what Laine brings, you work with what you got.

Can we agree Laine is an elite sniper in the NHL?

Laine is an elite shooter on certain positions. Positions from where most of the NHL players cannot score from. He cannot generate almost any opportunities himself. His shooting is somewhat one dimensional. Not great with changing the shooting angle and getting the shot past first blocker. To be a real elite sniper he would need to be more versatile with shooting.

Laine's a great shooter, but his presence on the left boards is a bit redundant as it was Caufield's bread and butter. Caufield isn't as effective in other positions on the PP.

Hes has his office just like Ovy but when you know how to shoot the puck, you can shoot it from anywhere. He still has the same shot whether hes in the slot or in his office.

The line stopped getting shifts last night after Demidov had a turnover.

You trust the lines that keep bleeding goals, so does MSL
Laine made turnover after turnover all year long. The fact that you still think he's a good player is mindblowing.
