I am curious as to the last time a Habs player missed multiple games on two separate occasions in the same season because of the flu. It’s the first time I’ve heard this happening.

Our cap situation relative to roster needs is perfectly fine.

We've got 11.5M$ in cap room, not counting Price's LTIR contract, and all 3 retention spots as of July 1.

Dobes, Strubble & Heineman are the only RFAs to sign, none of which are going to get huge raises.

Unless there is internal assessment that he isn't a culture fit, I'd say it's highly unlikely they trade Laine before the season starts.
Canadiens be looking to contend next season. They really need to address top 2 center and right D this offseason. Not going to be easy, need to keep every option open. Waste 9m in caproom for 2nd round pick Not good.

Laine negative asset on team.

I'm sure everyone would love that... Not so sure anyone with realistic expectations thinks this roster will be a legit contender in 12 months.

What 2C & 1RD are available straight up (ie at no cost to existing NHL roster players & within cap constraints ) this offseason that would push us into contention?

needing magic beans isn't a "need", it's fantasy

This season & the hockey the young core is playing right now is far from a "waste".

Go check our record without Laine. Nuff said.

Nonsense.

My only nitpick with your post is the bolded. We need a top4 RD, not a 1D.

I don't think they will have to get an elite player at either position, and we have alot of assets and it isn't a pile of middling picks and prospects. I don't think it's unrealistic to think Hughes can find a centre who can be even an average 2nd liner or a RD that can solidify our defensive game. The question of who is available is TBD. Gotta play the year out and wait for the draft/off season

I can't judge because last year from January to July I had like 6 seperate flus that lasted a week+ each. Haven't had one since then, and before that I hadn't had one in years.

If he's still showing symptoms I'm fine with him taking as much time as necessary. It'd be a disaster if he came back early and the flu went around the locker room.

For me it will all depend of what he wants for contract. Nothing more than 3 years for this guys, he's never been healthy and he's not good enough to drive his line.

He could be useful for our PP moving forward but what kind of contract you think would make sense for a player like him moving forward? (let's say he's healthy next season and produce around 30 goals)

3 x 6m for Habs imo. But Im pretty sure there are some teams out there that will be willing to go like 5 x 7m. If someone loses their mind and/or sees that Laine can still become a stud they will definitely be willing to pay up, 6 x 8m+.

Nonsense.
Laine lacks character and work ethic to be championship caliber player. Really want him off the team. Don't want it to spread. Do not try build on players with this demeanor. Will be disaster.

Montreal needs to address top 2 center. Lack of #2 center killed Canadiens this season. Dach cannot be counted on. Will not be cheap. An UFA like Bennett Habs need to overpay, likely grossly overpay. Still then, slim chance he signs here. If trade will take core piece. Probably sign an Ehlers to replace player we give up. Mailloux 50/50 may go also. Locals say Habs offered him as partial payment for centers at deadline. Cozens was one. They can't be high on him
Habs need to address right D also in future as it. It looks thin and inexperienced.
