Laine is in roughly the same situation as Dach was as far as recovering from injury and man games missed. Except Laine has elite qualities that Dach doesn’t and even being out of shape, rusty and battered Laine can still score. Dach on the other hand, couldn’t do anything and even when he’s playing better can’t really produce.
I'm still hoping Dach can get back to his pre injury trajectory two seasons ago. I liked him pre injury two seasons ago.

I'm hoping we find a role for Laine, long-term.

Same here. He was a good player for us and seemed like a steal until that injury. What worries me is he seems to be weak mentally.

Laine - Beck - Newhook seems to work well, or what do you guys say if youve seen the full games?

I just saw the highlights from this game but it showed already more chemistry between Laine and Beck than what Ive seen like in total between Laine and Dach. Newhook fits that line well right now too, but Demidov will of course be a huge update to it if its deemed the best way to break him in.

They look good together so far, but I think that line only has another week left together.

If Dach is out long term then I'm expecting Hughes to try for a 2C at the deadline. I think he'd like a more experienced guy than Beck in that role since we're still technically "in the mix", plus I doubt he'd want to steal away Laval's 1C while they're having such a good season.

He was better than he is now, but this trajectory he was on wasn’t ever what people thought imo. There was talk of him outperforming Suzuki and possibly taking over as the number 1C, it was batshit crazy then. I seen glimpses of a good player, but imo the warning signs were there before the injury. Too much hype went into 2 preseason games

Yeah nasty shots. Funny, I completely forgot Ovechkin. Matthews, I don’t know. Laine’s is ridiculous.

Matthews is a 60+ goal scorer when healthy, his shot is absolutely lethal, not only is it hard and accurate, but the way he changes the angle of his release is an absolute mind melter for goalies to deal with.

Ovi and Matthews have clearly separated them on the shooting level. Laine is right behind them with Bedard.

Matthews is clearly a superstar far beyond Laine. But is his shot better? Man I don’t think so.

Ovi's shot is hard, but he is pure volume shooter and that is one reason why he scores so much. His shooting % is 13, when Laine and Matthews has 15-16% range. So I think Matthews and Laine are top2 shooters, because their shooting arsenal is wider.

Matthews is a better player with a wide variety of scoring goals. That’s beyond dispute.

I’m talking about the one timers and shots from further out.
Yeah, same category / similar caliber. If the situation calls for them setting up in a soft spot for a catch and release or one-timer - equally scary for opponent.

(Matthews didn’t add one-timers to his arsenal until his 4th season.)

Matthews better “scorer” overall. Much better player. Also helps to have Marner assisting on 33 of his goals.

I liked his season 2 seasons ago, after he started playing wing with Nick and Cole, and then when he started centering his own line.

We did see Galchenyuk have a great period after we were eliminated from the playoffs.

I never cared for the Suzuki versus Dach debate, because we need two good centers. But yeah, I think because Daxh is bigger and was faster people were hoping he'd be the big center Suzuki will never be.

At any rate, I don't think we'd get much for him in a trade. So I'm hoping je can become a top 6 player, whether at C or on the wing. And if he's a top 6 talent that ends up playing 3rd line, all the better.

They shoot a lot more and score a lot from closer.

Distance shooting is all Laine. He's more accurate than the other two from distance, but he's a worse goal scorer overall because he doesn't score as much from close up.

Ovechkin has always been a volume shooter, not the most accurate shot but the best goal scorer in general.
Bedard and Matthews both have great wrist shots, almost Laine level, but neither one has anything on that onetimer.
